These thirteen twelve NESes are apparently running and fully active:

PerfNES
HeroNES
Tales from the Ether
All the King's Men
The Beginning of the World As We Know It
BirdNES 3
SprylliNES IV
ImmacuNES II B
MilarNES 3
Lands of the Galaxy: Circuitria
EltNES III
ZPNES X
GalaxyNES

Personally I don't count a NES until at least update 3, there are so, so many still births :(

You have at least 2 other games there that do not meet that qualification.

Hey, check out that Google Maps for BOTWAWKI.

What does it mean? We can have interactive update maps for Earth! Wohoo!

We have LuckyNES, MutantNES, Two Knights NES thingys, Eltain's NES is a self-professed Story NES which stories superpower a nation'd development based on quality, same goes, on a lesser scale, in a much more stat-based Immaculate NES. EQ's NES shows that stories are pretty important, supporting actions and pointing towards sucess.
I found that stories had remarkably little effect in EQ's NES... it felt like they were often overlooked, to be honest.

As for terminology about story NESes... there was a time about 5 years ago where people often put the prefix 'st' for story in front of their NESes, and those NESes typically contained full updates with full nation stats, and featured story bonuses. Nowadays what you're referring to as story NESes are more what I'd call 'pure story' NESes, as in ones with minimal stats. Pefectionist's NES falls more into what I'd think of as a 'traditional' NES.

Most NESes say that they support stories.

So I guess the
Nation Name/Player
Government
Income/Treasury
Army/Army Quality
Navy/Navy qualityu
Airforce/Air Quality
Culture/Religion/Desciption/Short History/Other

Is usually a Traditional NES format?

I think iggy is right about EQ's game, I think that the stories only help to illustrate your orders and they only do that when your orders are already crystal clear. I just write them for giggles and to make references to the Showtime network.

I feel as though purism has kind of died out, although the differing radical ideals of NESing influence our thinking on the games today, none of the games going on can be, or possibly ever could be, categorized so neatly. They are simply perspectives from which to view the game, and each of them offers their own advantages to the extent that hybridization is both inevitable and necessary.

Something Like this would probably be better for for most NESes, as far as interactive maps are concerned, because it can support custom images for maps and using a map w/ predrawn borders and flood fill would be easier to update territorial control. The built in shape system for Google maps is quite bad.

Dude, I don't know who you are or where you came from. But I LOVE YOU! We have the newest technology for NESing right here! Right Now!

That is pretty sweet. Especially 'cause I'm not making my own maps anyway. It might be nice to one day do that with the Tales from the Ether maps.

Yeah. That is kind of cool. It seems that each NES in this forum has its own flavor. No need to compare them, really.

PerfNES looks cool... but I feel like I'm in way over my head with all of the factions and what not. Wikipedia would definitely have to be my friend, perhaps moreso than my imagination. Maybe I should join as some tiny nation that won't do anything just to learn it.

It really isn't that complicated. Just do semi-realistic things and you should do fine. Perf has been answering questions left and right and would probably be more than happy to help you. And all that's left now are small nations of little importance, so you won't have much pressure on you.

Cool- thanks for the tip. I'll post something in that thread to see what's up.
