While We Wait: Boredom Strikes Back

There is a difference between giving feedback, and saying 'Ewwwww' or 'You have ruined a completely good system.' Those two things are called spam, and provide no useful advice or way to make things better. Feedback is discourse. That is not discourse.

Dachs provided feedback. It's just your response to negative feedback is to play the victim and make personal attacks on your critic. There's a reason you don't see much discourse in response to that.

I received plenty of feedback that is negative and I actually intently listened to it, heard it out, and made appropriate changes. You are in the minority, here.

What Dachs said isn't feedback. No matter which way you look at it.

I want to test one :)

My TL: 700 AD the Tibetan Empire invades China then collapses early, Tang Chinese have early discovery of gunpowder and extra expansionism and awesomeness, absorbing Tibet as vassal and reaching Caspian coastline and downbeating both the Sassanid Persians and Arabs. Greater east-west exchange occurs.

Byzantines quickly adopt gunpowder and firmly reconquer the whole mediterranean area by 900 AD in alliance with super slavic kindgoms of upper balkans and lower ukraine. Frankish Empire is confined and focused on central france and germany, fights off vikings who turn to Britain as a softer target, and look more towards exploring the atlantic.

1100 AD, chinese awesomeness decreases back to normal, advanced slavic kingdoms seek Byzantine aid in wars against steppe incursions, allowing Arabs to invade Egypt again, economic turmoil. Frankish empire becomes heavily armed and expanded HRE style mess from atlantic coast to poland. Viking colonists get a firm toe-hold in canada.

1200 AD, Vikings of scandinavia (and bits of britain) united in one great kingdom and christianised, burgeoning trade coming from north america. Byzantine holdings in spain, southern france and northern italy are breaking away again, exploring into the Atlantic to seek their own trade routes...

If that's your sentiment, then ignoring the statement is better than attacking it. I mean, opposing his statement just leads to longueur, grandstanding counterarguments and counter-counter arguments that, in the end, achieve nothing at all.

My advice: just drop it. If, in fact, they are in the minority, then, if you start the game, the majority would like the idea and, perhaps, join it.

No, I honestly understood you the first time, das. No worries.

g'day

Feedback is not discourse. Feedback is feedback. Any kind of response would technically qualify as feedback; it is a different question of whether it is good feedback or bad feedback, but any kind of feedback can be useful. For one thing, even Dachs' initial response, (as far as I could understand) a joke that you did not get and consequently blew out of proportion for the sake of an argument, makes it clear to you that he personally is not interested in it.

Which, yeah, might not be the most useful feedback ever, but on the other hand is exactly why this wasn't the right place for this kind of discussion anyway (sorry, I can't seem to let this point go even though you have accepted it. Please bear with me). It's the sort of pace and tone of discussion that prevails in what is technically our resident OOC thread. There was absolutely no need to overreact the way you seem to be prone to (just as an observation based on admittedly limited exposure; feel free to prove my point or prove me wrong). And he did elaborate on it in greater detail later.

Just give it a rest already, like he is willing to do.

Random question-- Are the forums being wonky for anyone else? Whenever I try to post something that has a lot of text it takes a couple minutes before it'll post. Sometimes it even times out. I don't think it's my connection because I can post wallsoftext just fine on other forums...

CFC is wonky for me, but so is everywhere else on the internet, because my wireless sucks, so I'm not really a good barometer. Sorry.

das: that's a personal attack, man. You don't know me. :p I've dropped it. As I said.

Proved me wrong. Alright then. :)

And no, CFC doesn't seem unusually slow to me right now. It certainly can be at times, but that's probably, probably a connection thing.

But I wouldn't put the setting up here and ask for ideas or feedback or oooh oooh look at this.

Dachs said:
I didn't tell him it's not suitable for here.

Just sayin'. :p

Dachs said:
What's with all of the personal comments, most of which are based either on superficial or blatantly incorrect information?

What personal comments? I didn't comment on your personality beyond what you have made known to me in this thread. To be completely honest, I called you an 'elitist' initially as a sort of compliment (believe it or not) - because honestly your alternate history essays are far more academic/plausible/historically interesting than what I was proposing (I am not being facetious here!). Funny, how I received PMs from users on this forum saying I should ignore you and that you are arrogant. shrug. I didn't call you arrogant and I still have yet to form a concrete opinion about you. I just don't like how you came in here and pushed me around like that, without attempting to understand what I was talking about.

I know if I was writing a plausible althist, Dachs, you would be the first person I would value advice from. I told you to 'shoo' because I knew how utterly ridiculous my timeline was.

-

@das: You seem like a reasonable fellow.
Just trying to understand why this happened, really, personalities aside.
So please, I invite you to read over what was said and how it was said. It began with me asking for where NA tribes were located, which ones I was missing, etc. - then went to me asking for any specific suggestions on how I can make the timeline more ridiculous. I may have overreacted, but I don't think my reactions were necessarily unjustified or completely unwarranted. Put yourself in my shoes. New to this forum. Politely asking the community for some suggestions and even help. Then suddenly, I get attacked or ridiculed - and remember that I don't know people's personalities. Maybe Dachs is the way he is, and everyone else has come to accept it. But I have no idea who this person is, so his comments seemed offensive.

@Everyone: I have erred, and I admit it. Based on the first page of this thread, which reads:
This is the official discussion thread for NESing related topics that do not belong in any particular thread. It should not be used to flame, spam, or discuss non-NESing topics.

I was entirely wrong to post things about my PBEM game here, and ask for suggestions regarding it. It was illogical, and as das has said, in the wrong place.

-

@Shadowbound (since this is related to NESing):
Your cheap shots at me during this whole episode are noted, and let it be known that you came into my PreNES thread, spouting that I had ruined a system and was doing nothing good, and wanting it changed to how you wanted it (while the majority of players wanted things kept as they were). It is over. You lost. I didn't accept your ideas. And by the way, you didn't express them as sincere ideas. You came into my thread and just wrote: "You have ruined a perfectly good system... etc. etc. etc." You didn't offer anything to my NES, and to be honest, I am quite happy you are not involved in it given your attitude at that time. Then you have the nerve to tell me in this thread that I am prone to overreacting (when it was you, who when your ideas did not go over well with me or the other players, decided to not play). And I was new to this forum and GMing that kind of game and obviously trying to figure it out, and you were completely unhelpful. You hadn't even signed up for my NES (!), hadn't even expressed interest, and you were only degrading it without offering anything else. Again- in my PreNES thread. You bringing it up here and making a shot at me is a very similar tactic to the one you used when you spammed my PreNES thread. K? Tnx. ;) Why can't we just stay away from each other? Sheesh.

I don't know why it became the way it did, but let me say this, as a relative 'newb' to this forum: When I came here at first, there were those who were welcoming, and there were those who were not. I think it is important, for new players to a forum like this, for all of the community to remember the fact that new people don't know who you are. You may have tons of 'internet cred' in this place, but that doesn't mean I know if you are being a jerk just because that's your personality (which is fine). As nutranurse said, the Internet is a terrible place to read another human being. Despite this, if you come into my home, I'll welcome you and hear what you have to say or add to my community. If you come into my home, and you run around and poop on my carpet, I won't. I'd like to think I came in here with an open mind and wanting to learn.

That is all, folks. Drama? Maybe. Did it have to be? No.

Its ego problems that cause such conversations. Remember that we are trans-dimensional beings that shape reality to our will. We are the source of the whole universe, and more. If you base your sense of self on that, then you will not ever need to be 'right' or have approval of others. State your truth, and move on.
