@Terrance: Good god, no! Downgrades for looooooooong waits between the updates.

@Gem Hound: ...I don't think you understand what perfection is. Or what grade inflation is?
I guess I don't understand the first one then. Perfection to me is when a game becomes insanely interesting.

Grade inflation: Now in a forum near you!
Heehee. ;)

I don't mind him voicing his opinion; I just disagree with it. I think handing 99/100 to more than one NES is excessive? Near-perfection shouldn't be that easy to hand out. Hell, I wouldn't hand out a single A to the NES forum right now...
Yeah, I'd apply a much stricter rubric, and in my head, no NES currently ranks better than somewhere in the high eighties... of course, I judge all NESes differently based on what I desire from a NES, and what I get.

Ever listen to random civilization 3/4 music while updating and get nostalgia/flashbacks??

I'm thinking of running SimEarth in the background for its music when I next update TuxLife.

Why not the SimLife music? :D

Mostly because I have hours upon hours of time in SimEarth (specifically the SNES version) and virtually zero in SimLife. Therefore, I wasn't even sure if SimLife had music worth hearing.

Hey guys, I've got some bad news. My computer just refuses to work. As of Saturday it started to freeze completely at the welcome screen and even if I can get past that it will freeze on my desktop within a few minutes. I have no idea what's wrong; I took it apart, dusted it down, everything seems to be working, but still it decides to crap out after a while.

More likely than not I'll have a new computer within a few weeks, but I'm going to be losing literally everything that I've worked on for the past 4ish years--NESing stuff included. Once I get my new computer I'm going to try and recreate everything, but, well, we'll see if that's possible. Until then I also won't have a computer (I am using my girlfriend's at the moment, and after graduation this Saturday she's going back to her home for two months before joining me in D.C. for work) so I cannot participate in ay NES' I am signed up for.

Just thought I should give you guys an update on my situation.

edit: I have really crap luck. Apparently my external harddrive isn't working either, now :~I

You see, you say that yet offer no solutions. I am at my wits end about this computer and its problems. I just will not work. Nor do I want to pay hundreds of dollars to have it looked at "professionals" when I can just get a new computer for a similar price. I am thinking that I may be able to salvage my harddrive by pulling it out of the old computer, but I am reluctant to open up my new computer to start tinkering around. Outside of this crisis I am far from computer savvy (I really opened up the case to blow out the dust, still did not help).

It could be as simple as your GPU messing up, or a faulty stick of RAM. If you're booting into windows it probably isn't the hard drive.

When you can get to the desktop, you should move all your NES stuff onto something portable. This solution is obvious, but shouldn't be too hard...as long as your stuff is all in one place/organized by folders.

These issues can be resolved easily. No need to lose all your data.

Really.

Just borrow a boot CD/USB of, I don't know, some Linux flavor, boot into that, recover all your data.
