While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

Like I've said in the IOTers' thread, that's not really an accurate characterization of NESes. We've had RiskNESes and GalaxyNES. We've had AFSNES and ZPNES. There are srs bzns NESes and ones that aren't; there are ones that are reasonably realistic without a whole lot of moderator interference and ones that are highly unrealistic with the moderator running everything. There's not really a pigeonhole for what a NES is in that sense.

Gemhound is thinking of IOT's niche as provinces and NES's niche as stories that never end; with stories that happen to end in Role-playing. ;)

But neither of those is a particularly accurate characterization.

NES's are different from IOT's though. IOT's are mostly like Risk((The five or six I played. IaB was different.)), NES's are mostly like Civilization and are more complex.

How's that, then? A lot of IOTs strongly remind of NESing in general pre-2005. All the Motherhen and RTOR-type NESes are also similar to the "average" IOT. NES is a very broad category, so much so that much of the IOTs easily fits into one or more "genres" of NESing.

Are you guys noticing that I'm saying "mostly" and not every single one?

The point is that there is no one NES culture. There are already a bunch of cliques, with varying degrees of inbreeding.
So this would be more accurate?

I think a merge would be good for everyone. The only real difference is development and origin. NES developed from Civ3 stories and added game elements later. IOT developed from Off Topic and added story elements later. NESing is over a decade old, IOT is, what, 2-3 years max or something? Are these differences really worth dividing ourselves fully, when we see that both communities have the good and the bad we see in each other?

I think not. NES and IOT are almost mere titles by now, holding together different communities. Who knows? This influx of members might reverse the trends we saw in "NESing by the Numbers" as well as give them a larger point of view of ways to run IOT other than lots and lots of RNG rules for everything.

If mostly means "not at all" then sure.

Well, what I'm saying is that your description is essentially meaningless because there's no such thing as "a typical NES." :dunno:

NESing has pc; IOT does not.

Admittedly, Though, this kind of Merger is what happened a couple years ago with the "Lazy NESes" of the other games subforum. I know a few of us originally come from there (and were dragged over by Abbadon.)

so, I'm still debating whether I should "accept the Great old one's return and accept the secret knowledge they offer, or disbeleive and suffer the torments until now unkown to man," as offered by the crazy old man proselytizing to the Metro, today.

[00:27:52] <+wrymouth3> LOOK OUT ITS ARCHBISHOP TROLLE
[00:27:52] <+loudbot> CLERGYMEN, CLERGYMEN EVERYWHERE

We - "we" meaning "Azash's friend" - have given birth to...AI.

1. If the merger happens, let us keep post-count. It's of great importance to some of us...
2. More importantly, if the merger happens... What would you call the new forum? Who is to decide that?

Luckymoose, please, you're making us all look bad. :(

However, that said, I have a lot of emotional attachment to the name 'Never Ending Stories', and would not like to see it changed.
