I dunno.
Maybe there are reasons I used quotes. Maybe I understand I don't know much more than what AP classes lie to me about. Maybe I'm just offering discussion points.
I freely admit I do not know as much as you and prehaps a majority of the people here. All I want are intriguing ideas for discussion of how, and if, such a TL would work. I also freely admit I would have less than a 50% of running this, even if we establish a somewhat plausible TL. I also admit that them fighting over colonies isn't completely correct, and that the colonies are merely theaters of growing importance might be more acceptable.
The idea behind it is that it would START at OTL 1700-1750. One thing that intrigued me is the French/English rivalry over North America, the Spanish/Portuguese in South America, the Free For All in the Asian Seas. Another was The Diplomatic Revolution and cultivation of alliance systems, the use of colonial systems both as bargaining chips as well as nuclei of stronger empires.
Also, I am still stuck on that time I read that the 1688s-1815 can be considered a "Second Hundred Years War" of rivalry between France and Britain. It just sounds both so cool and so wrong at the same time.
EDIT: Additional Qualifier, I am also seeing niche colonies still available, like IRL New Netherlands, Scandinavian Delaware, ect.
