While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

What's the format like? I've not played since Mirrodin...

M14 Limited is okay, like most core set formats. Not nearly as fun a Return to Ravnica Block draft, but the format is pretty slow. Standard is a nightmare. Control is barely viable, because Wizards loves control hosers/powerful creatures and hates blue. The only viable decks at the moment are Jund and various Turn 3-4 win Blitz decks.

O CANADA way too many times in AOM: LAZER BEAR ARMY OF DOOM!

I know where Lucky lives. It's not really a secret, is it? :p

Not bad; looks like there are a lot of interesting games that I will need to pick up in the future (especially some of the Paradox ones, which I have been meaning to but haven't gotten the opportunity yet).

Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology, Starcraft I, Starcraft II, Warcraft III, and Homeworld. I'm much more into RTS games than I am into turn-based games.

Have you tried Stardrive or Endless Space in that case, Iggy? Heard that they were good, though I don't know many people that have played them that I know.

Well. Goonswarm has just won the latest war, completely crushing Dreddit into dust after a few weeks of their patented "blueball" strategy. And in so doing, secured its place as the richest single entity in Eve. Looking forward to when they celebrate their wealth by burning it away by suicide-ganking carebears.

I'm sincerely hoping that Dreddit and the others can push back and retake Fountain by force, but it doesn't look like they'll be able to unfortunately. Though that fight from yesterday where they crammed four thousand people into one system was pretty interesting to watch and see a final defense instead of whimpering and broken collapse. Who are you with in Eve then, qoou?

The Goonswarm are unknowable.

My crush is trying to get people to join Eve. I was considering to join myself.

No, the game looks interesting enough. I just want to try it, but Im not gonna pay the subscription.

Yeah, it'd be fun if Dreddit could offer any more resistance, but they've already gone and officially surrendered Fountain in a short SotA (State of the Alliance) address last night. The good thing about it though is that all those Fountain moons are going to come into very capable hands now. Whether they're market manipulating or not, you can at least count on Goons to be competent.

I'm rooting for Pizza followed by BL, though I'm not actually in anything relevant. I've dabbled a bit in most activities, but right now I'm just taking advantage of spreadsheets I've made, making money by logging in just once a day to update production queues and send goods off to the market, and buying more industry characters with extra capital I've got lying around. Nowhere near space rich (~2.5bil liquid cash, ~7.5bil assets, ~7bil worth of purchased characters), but my auto-updating spreadsheets are really sleek and nifty.

One day, when I decide I have enough free time, I'll buy a bomber alt and go fly with Pizza. Maybe I'll even get in the moon mining business eventually. Though my moon mining spreadsheet work currently consists of a handful of comments in a python file and a scrap of paper with the relevant linear algebra work scribbled on it.

I've only put in $20 (account starting fee bundled with a month of gameplay) so far, and I've been playing for several months and have 6 characters fully running atm. You can pay the subscription fee via in-game currency easily, is what I'm getting at. Arguably easily*

Edit:
And if you do decide to try it, please do tell me. There's a "buddy invite" offer that gives you an extra 7 days of trial time, and gives me an extra month of gameplay when you upgrade to a full account :p.

Pizza are pretty awesome with their bombing and black ops tactics, and Black Legion certainly is an interesting alliance to face and watch. It's a pity that Black Legion took that bribe from Goonswarm to quit hammering assets in the north and that the CFC switched over to a new doctrine; I was expecting them to be deep into Cloud Ring by now, or further. Was an interesting war while it lasted at least.

Also, your spreadsheets and industry work is starting to make me jealous a bit; I should try to do something like that here soon. I have the capital and the characters, I just haven't had the drive to do it. :(

I've joined up with WoW for a while again, and I'm also up for DotA at most times.

If anyone's up for a session of either, my steam username is Joakim. I know both fc, Iggy, Lucky, Crezth and Kraz in there.

I've been playing alot of the Game of Thrones mod for CK2, recently. Hella Fun. My most recent game as Aegon the Conqueror saw me burn with my dragons nearly every Independant king and their families (aside for Stark and martell) leaving me the opportunity to place targaryens as lord paramounts of every region, and marry my Heir to the Stark heir. Oh, and Orys Baratheon has the Riverlands.

Work: The Game.

To be fair, "linear algebra" makes it sound more complicated than it actually is. It's just that the usage of some simple matrix equations saves you from getting lost in the veritable gaggle of formulas that constitute that part of the game, and since python has nifty modules that solve the matrix equations I end up with, I go from a couple of pages of code to a few lines.

I own Stardrive and have played it sense the beta. Ralyeh represent! :D

It's a fun game, although it feels a bit frustrating and unpolished in a few areas. Still worth it for the price I got it at in the beta though. :)

I rest my case.

In all seriousness, I do appreciate that linear algebra isn't that complicated, but the concept of having to write lines of code to play video games strikes me less as a game and more like a job :p

I will never understand MMOs. :p
