Break My Heart
Cowboy swing is an oft forgotten genre which played an important role in the development of rock and roll, according to some.
I can't say I'm fond of it.
Depends on what you mean by "rock and roll". By the late 50s rock and roll had already been established. I mean hell, Buddy Holly was dead and gone and by then and Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry had already been around for several years.
Buck Owens and Merle Haggard had a much more lasting impact on rock music than that drivel. That's just soulless, emotionless overproduced crap with an uninspiring banjo lick and a rather dull drum beat. Even the content pales in comparison to the likes of Kris Kristofferson (Western artist, but still) or any number of Honky Tonk or country singers. When you consider that contemporary to that song you also had Buck Owens' "Second Fiddle", or Bill Monroe's "Sitting on top of the World", "Uncle Pen", or best of all, in my opinion "Wayfaring Stranger", or hell anything by Muddy Waters (Folk Singer was just a couple years away), it's understandable it would barely register as a blip on the radar.
