Except that having sex with someone who doesn't carry any STD to begin with is very unlikely to give you an STD, to the point of rendering condoms irrelevant for the purpose of preventing STD's.

To be fair, condoms are more designed in mind to prevent unwanted children rather than preventing STDs.

No, you're not. A better way would be to make a claim like this:
Blacks are more AIDS-prone than white because they are statistically less intelligent [cite Charles Murray here] and therefore less likely to put on condoms, especially when having gay sex. Also, because their penises are larger [insert dubious citation here], they cause more damage during anal sex, increasing the chance of AIDS.

The conclusion I draw from this thread is that Jesus was lucky to get crucified . . . otherwise he would have gotten AIDs.
Evolutionary psychology says that since women can only have a child every year or so, they are far more selective than men when it comes into choosing sex partners. Extrapolating that we can presume that MSM are more promiscuous that MSW and WSW, also there is the factor of anal sex being riskier and less taboo among MSM. Evolutionary psychology also tells that the human penis evolved to help sperm competition. Since Black men are known to be more endowed down there, the need to evolve such a trait indicates the presence of a higher promiscuity environment in an evolutionary scale of time, which by itself can be argued as a sociobiological trait of them, these are factor that could explain the higher incidence of aids in those groups. Of course cultural aspects, social programs, and the like have their own impact in the matter.

This thread may have been started as a troll thread, but I'll reiterate that the question is an important one: why does HIV/AIDS affect people of African descent more than similarly disadvantaged people of other ethnic backgrounds? It also seems to affect southern Africans, more than eastern Africans, more than western Africans, more than diaspora Africans in the Americas, more than everybody else, in that order.
It's interesting to me that Africans are the most genetically diverse "race" of humans, given that we originated there, and there are clear regional differences in HIV/AIDS infection rates within the African continent. Furthermore, sub-Saharan Africa is by far the worst-affected region. Infection rates >1% are fairly rare outside of that continent, even among similarly impoverished people and among people with taboos against condoms. Also, in areas with black diaspora populations, the infection rate is even higher among blacks than can be explained by socioeconomic factors alone. Is there something genetic, besides the mutation El Machinae pointed out*, going on here? I don't really know much about advances in HIV/AIDS research so I'd be interested in finding out anything new about its epidemiology.
Both strains of the disease disease did originate in Africa, which explains some of the effect. However, it has been present in the USA since at least 1969 (the first retrospectively confirmed death), and it was likely here long before that, even though nobody noticed anything unusual until 1979. It may well have spread worldwide by the 1970s or earlier; it certainly had by the 1980s.
*~10% of Europeans have a mutation that confers significant immunity against HIV. While true, this proportion is nowhere near enough to confer much herd immunity and it cannot explain the gap between, say, Asia+Latin America and Africa.

I'm also curious why the number of AIDS cases is higher among black people. The big indicator is the Caribbean compared to Latin America. Haiti is extremely poor but if you compare the rest of the Caribbean with places like Nicaragua, Guatemala, and other places that have a great deal of poverty and are catholic it seems strange that its higher in the Caribbean.

Russia got hit BAD, especially during the Yeltsin years.
There was wide spread belief that Russia would be unaffected by it as they had been in the 80s (when travel was minimal) combined with the tremendous social collapse that hit Russia at the time.
