would jesus have joined the army?

I'm sure he could have joined the Roman army if he wanted to, but he didn't.

Yeah, sure Form. Whatever. But you are right on one thing. I forgive you.
You certainly have a weird way of showing it, and you obviously won't even apologize for even trying to ridicule me over your own mistake. Much less, you clearly won't stop even "lying" about me on a regular basis.

Your aberrant form of "forgiveness" would hardly be considered to be so by Jesus, or any "real Christian" for that matter. You ever react completely differently when I post exactly the same thing as JR does. How often does a "real Christian" need to be forgiven for deliberately and even falsely "trespassing" against others?

Christianity was clearly a religion of pacifism until the Romans adopted it themselves and twisted it into a form where aggression and conquest were even considered to be acceptable.

I feel a great sadness sometimes.
I feel pretty good...

Maybe little poetry will cheer you up?

The words about God
are on their lips
but their hands are full
of Satans deeds.

There are many, many ways of interpreting the Bible so that you don't disagree with it, often in ways that make the text seem to indicate something else all together. Conservapedia's laughable effort is simply one of the most transparently ridiculous in this instance.

Actually, I consider Jesus causing a ruckus in the temple to be a nice counterpoint to the hippy some people consider Biblical Jesus to be. Personally, I prefer the "Jesus as an apocalyptic prophet" thesis. Don't be violent with evil people - Yahweh will come extremely soon and apply all the violence the evil ones deserve Himself.

I think the whole notion of "King James is the only divinely inspired version of the Bible" is, if not more laughable, at least more disheartening considering how widespread it is.

Considering that Jesus said that he came to fulfill the law of god, and by the OT that law was quite violent, I doubt Jesus would have a problem with the army. Religion by its nature is violent, so one can not support it and be a pacifist.

It's particularly hilarious if you consider James VI & I's sexual peccadilloes. :)

At base of most religions is divine love. Its the animal/human nature which is violent and tries to corrupt religion which can on the contrary be of help in transforming that nature.

Religion is about controlling others which is violence - religion has nothing to do with the divine (if there is such a thing); it is a human created institution to justify the control of other humans

Well, close, all false religions are created by Satan for the purpose of controlling humanity and defying God.

I can't believe nobody brought this up, yet:

"for all who draw the sword will die by the sword"

So, no.

That's the one thing all regiligions agree on, that all others are false, and the one thing I will grant them all as being true

Well played :D Though actually, Polytheist religions seem perfectly capable to accept each other - in principle anyway. And actually actually, a monotheist could, too.
Really, claiming all other religions wrong by default is a pretty unique trait of the Abrahamic religions it seems to me.
And if you think about it, regions where Abraham religions have no significant presence seem to suspiciously lack conflict due to religion.
(That is not to say that other religions can not cause conflict as well. I am pretty sure they have. But more on a case-to-case basis rather than out of the very nature of the prime religious claims)

"for all who draw the sword will die by the sword"
Amusingly enough, in Russia that phrase is associated with a militaristic (albeit defensively militaristic) context. In Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky Russian prince Alexander, after defeating the Teutonic order offensive on Russian land, says almost the same - "all who draw the sword at us, will die by the sword". By the Russian sword, obviously. That was a stealth Bible quotation - Stalin, at whose request Eisenstein was filming, would probably not approve of blatant Biblical allusions.

Actually there are many religions that don't claim to be the only true religion.

Sigh. You want me to forgive; I do, and then you complain.

Form, i've come to the conclusion you'd make a good wife. One that nags her husband into shape with her constant prattling on and on about perceived failings. I guess you did go to college to get that MRS degree.
