I voted no. I really don't mind a few popup ads. I'd think its easier for civfanatics to sell ad space anyway, rather than count on donations, which will certainly fluctuate.

I would donate, but sadly I don't have any money let alone a credit card or cheking account. Any money I do get is going to go towards my '68 Chevy Pickup that I inherited from my Grandpa a month or so ago.

I have no problem giving EZboard $7 every 6 months to stay ad-free. Provided the amount is low enough - paid via paypal - I would have no problem.

I voted for no. Mainly the reason is that I have just opened up my checking account and my Debit Card would not arive in 2 weeks :-/. Though if we go with Amazon, I know I would Benifit in it :D, By a Book and support CFC :D.

I already bought PTW with the link you advertised here, what else do you want? :p

Seriously, though, I spam enough here to think that this site could use the money. I would probably give a few dollars to the cause. :)

P.S.: TF, you may get lots more over the long run by also posting this poll in the little sub-menu quick polls section of the cfc.com homepage.

I think that things should stay the way they are. Popups are annoying, but they're bearable and I don't much mind them. However, this is assuming we don't have anymore...

ELECTRICAL SUPERSTORMS!!!!!

I would be prepared to pay $10-20 per year. Free software is available however to eliminate popups (pretty much). I don't think that it will be possible to charge people to use the site, but maybe it will be possible to offer an additional service for those people that choose to donate. In this way it might be possible to make enough money to at least screen pop-ups so that only the less annoying types are used.

I think that this site is of sufficiently high quality to warrant a small charge.

Simply put, no.

I'm sorry, I would love to donate money, but I am a struggling college student who enjoys to spend his money on food and girlfriends. Luckily I save a few bucks by not drinking, but my car takes up those other expenses. Yes, I am coming up with excuses, but if I had money to spare, I would definately donate. However since I don't, I can't say I would donate. So I'll have to say no.

I voted yes, the site is great and I use it alot.
As for the banners and the ads, I don't mind at all, I would just be glad to help any way I can since this site helps me.

Money is never a problem.

Popups? What popups?

Seriously, I get lots of popups on other sites, even though I could set Nutscrape to disable them (so I still don't know how effective it is; fairly, I'm assuming). The only problem I get from CFC is an annoying alert every page saying "connection refused by mediamgr.ugo.com" or something along those lines. mediamgr.ugo gives me problems on one or two other sites as well; along with numerous other adservers which I can't recall now.

Meh, I don't miss 'em.

But I think this site rocks, so I'd donote (as soon as I get a better job and off welfare; it's a slow process, but part-time college will help in a few months-a year). Same story for about four other sites I like as well (not civ-related though, this is the only (current) civ-site for me).

Sorry, for rambling. Keep up the good work.

I think the donation thing is a good idea. But I am happy with the pop-up ads. (I have an IE plug-in that blocks them)

I might one day in the future but I'm planning on going to University and I will need to keep all the money that I get.

The ads are not that annoying so I'm happy with the way things are at the moment. It's a great site though so I would support you if you got rid of them.

Its odd that the original discussions on donation ages ago, were simply donations without any benefits and some people seemed willing and yet now that contributers wouldn't see adverts, no one seems to want to donate and seem to generally be using the same excuse. Perhaps secretly they all like the adverts...

I would quite happily donate cash on a semi regular basis.. this site has taught me all I know about civ and it's a great way to while away coffee breaks at work. However, I have concerns about using paypal because of all the recent media attention on the security issues. Perhaps people could donate via their online banking?
As for the pop ups and "goodies" for donors, pah I would donate anyway!

What ads? I see no ads? P'raps I don't go to the right parts of the site. But if the site needs a bit of help I'll happily throw a few bucks in.

Popups are suppressed by my browser configuration and I don't mind the ads. Thus: no.

Aight, I think we all agree that the popups not are a problem, as they can be blocked.
So the only thing we get rid of (effectively) is the banners.
I must say, I do not find the banners very offensive, maybe even informative from time to time.
I rarely click on a banner, once every two months perhaps, but when I do i am intrigued by what it has to offer, off course.
I think we are all very capable internet surfers and, hence, capable of not being annoyed by a few banners.

I had the same problem, but I switched to Mozilla and, swoosh, no more "connection to yada.yada.com was refused".
