2020 Election Thread!!!!!!!!!

Mastermind is your term.
No ... "mastermind" is your term. The word "mastermind" comes up 4 times in this thread and the first use was by you at 11AM on Friday. I only started using the term after you used it.

So first, admit that mastermind is your term. Then just state plainly where you accuse Obama of being the mastermind behind the Trump win and Russia scandals.

My bad. Still, it matters little.

I hoped for so much better from Barack Obama. He ran on hopeful change and we got more cronyism than the Republicans. He promised transparency and we get more of that from Trump. He never tried to come to working terms with the Democrats, much less bipartisanship. Now these police state tactics are coming to light. I hoped for much better.

As for the Trump win, the BOA tried very hard to sabotage it. The Russia scandals is just sore losers grasping at straws. There was never anything to see, but they wanted something to explain why they were slapped in the face on election day.

Trump is more transparent then Obama ?
Trump has less cronyism then Obama ?
Obama never tried to work with or compromise with Republicans ?
Republicans never tried to sabotage Obama ?

As for the election, I hope Trump is wrapped around the necks of the Republican party and the stink will be so bad that it will finally learn the correct lesson.
On the plus side it will be the last we will being seeing of the Clintons.

Yeah. That one is a no-brainer. MUCH more transparent.
Hard to say yet. Bush was less and he set a bad example.
Yes, again. No-brainer, again. It's why the Democrats own the healthcare mess.
Nothing about Bush tampering with the 2008 election comes to mind.

Tax returns ? Ethic waivers ? Visitor Logs ? Secret tapes ?
Bush was less corrupt ? Heck of a job brownie ? I have to work with the dumbest person in the world ? Rumsfield is the finest secretary of state in the history of the US ?
How many admendments were proposed by Republicans and added into law as part of Obamacare ? Republicans announcing they got 95% of what they asked for ?
Bush ran a clean election campaign ? Karl Rove never employed any dirty tricks ? Illegitimate black child ? Swiftboating ?

Hell Republican cant even work with themselves and they control all three branches of government
Clinton originally proposed universal healthcare, way back but I guess Obamacare is owned by the Democrats now, compromising was a mistake. Just look how Republicans are doing with Trumpcare right now that should be sufficient to show you what no-compromising actually looks like.

Either way the US political system is broken

I'm not a Trump fan either, so don't expect me to defend him. However, if you file an FOA request, you get a reply. On a more humorous level, Trump is transparent because he tweets everything he thinks. As to the rest, you need to re-read my post. That level of misquoting is usually done by lawyers.

To answer one question, there are zero Republican amendments to ACA. It is also untouched by Congress since passage.

Seems like a peaceful silence falling would be a surer sign of brokenness, in this way.
Sort of... "This is how the world ends... not with a bang but a whisper"? Or... "This is how Democracy dies... to thunderous applause"?

I have to admit I had not considered that perspective... that all the hand wringing going on is evidence that our system is not, in-fact, broken but has some fight left in it yet. I'll have to think some more about that, but at first blush it seems compelling.

There is the old joke about equal freedom in USA and USSR. You can stand outside the Capital building or you can stand outside the Kremlin. In both places you can denounce American foreign policy or praise Soviet leadership.

It does go back to the point of the thread, what Democrats are left to run?

J

Ah I see... but then that collides with the point that Farm Boy made... they aren't going out "with a whisper"... they're kicking and screaming all the way to the gallows.
A tantrum. Aptly put.

So you think the Democrats are badly overplaying their hand. What fallout do you foresee and when?

J

Well Sommer, which worries you more: When a large group of us is annoyingly loud, or when that same group gets quiet?

Darnit, I'm not finding a picture for the serene but abandoned thing I have going on in my head, so here's this instead!

Spoiler :

No. A tantrum is when a child kicks and screams while being dragged out of Toys R US because they didn't get the toy they wanted, ignoring that they will in fact probably get that toy, or something better, at a later date in the near future... Kicking and screaming while being dragged to the gallows is more aptly described as fighting for survival to your last breath at the expense of your dignity. So which do you equate to the Democrats?

Poorly playing their hand, maybe... but overplaying, no, sorry I can't cosign that. Overplaying in this context might be more like shutting down the government until Trump is impeached.

Well, you've heard the saying "It's the quiet ones you gotta watch"...

But to quote the late great George Carlin...
George Carlin: "Back in Town"- 1996 said:
“Its the quiet ones ya gotta watch. This sounds to me like a very dangerous assumption. I will bet you anything that while your watching a quiet one, a noisy one will [effing] kill you! Suppose your in a bar and one guy is sitting in a corner reading a book not bothering anybody and another is standing in the front with a machete banging on the bar saying “I’LL KILL THE NEXT [MUTHER-EFFER] WHO COMES IN HERE!” ……who ya gonna watch? You're goddam right."

As far as the video goes... If/when it gets to that point "conservative v. liberal" won't amount to a hill of beans... Interestingly, the conflict might then be "collaborators v. resistance"... Also, if the population of earth ever becomes high enough that a nuclear holocaust produces ground that is completely covered in skulls... that means we were way overpopulated...

A quiet forum isn't performing its function. The function will be done, but then no longer in the forum.

But the word "forum" can apply accurately to these threads, a sports stadium, or a Court of law... more loosely defined, it could certainly apply to a college classroom, or even the mess hall/common area in a jail... which I think, was in part, your intention.

Neither fits well. The first starts out well, but the toy isn't coming later. The second one doesn't work at all. For that reaction, consider how Bernie Sanders is playing all of this.

Ah. The Gingrich approach. That would certainly be overplaying, but you need not go that far. I was thinking pushing all in with a deuce&seven off-suit and art showing on the flop.

I thought you might say so
