She was the first female Aussie OM? Our first one wasn't elected in an election she rolled the other guy.

Ooops, accidentally deleted that post. Yes, Gillard was the first woman prime minister. Calling her right wing is an amusing sledge on modern federal Labor, of course.

At a sub national level, Rosemary Follett was the first female leader, she was also the first Chief Minister of the ACT after we got self government. Carmen Lawrence, also Labor, was the first female premier of a state when she led Western Australia.

There have been eleven female leaders of states and territories, three of whom were Chief Ministers of the ACT, two Premiers in Queensland, and two premiers in New South Wales. Every state and territory has had a female leader except South Australia, and in every state and territory the first woman was Labor.

There's only been two female Liberal leaders, both were the second woman in their state or territory. The ACT election in 1995 which saw Kate Carnell defeat Rosemary Follett and become the first Liberal leader of a state or territory was, so far, the only one in Australia where both major party leaders were women.

Gillard was Liberal though and that's kind of your national party? IDK she might be a moderate but she's not Labour?

When you had 5 leaders in 5 years it became hard to keep track of things.

Julia Gillard was Labor.

She replaced Rudd after he was dumped, won the 2010 election, then was replaced by Rudd shortly before he lost the 2013 election.

Derp completely wrong. Flays myself with a scourge of Labour party flyers.

As I said hard to keep up back then.
Generally our leaders get 9 years.

you should google her job before she entered parliament... she was the head honcho of the Union movement... the ACTU

I thought I replied to this but can't find my post...
China is authoritarian but not totalitárian. And I don't support their authoritarianism, but merely suggested that perhaps the US could learn something from the way they ensure big business don't go against perceived public interest.
What now.

CNN polls also show the Bern leading in California, so it may already be over. Iirc he also now polls higher among "black" americans than Biden, so no card left to Biden. Latinos afaik always were more supportive of Bern anyway. So are uni-degree "whites".

I had only one wish for 2020 and that is Bernie winning the election. I am on the edge and will be nervous next Tuesday morning here (Monday Iowa time), to see whether he really wins Iowa. If he wins both Iowa and NH, he can pull this off.
If Washington wouldn't be so far from Singapore, I would surely come to the inauguration of a lifetime.

Trump is on record, from a private meeting with supporters, admitting that the only candidate he feared in 2016 was Sanders.

China is by no means a totalitarian regime. I mean, not even close. It's undemocratic and authoritarian, obviously, but it's not at all a totalitarian regime like Stalinist Russia or Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge.

It seems obvious to me that Sanders is an a way better position to beat Trump than Biden.

But bizarrely, Fox News is basically at war with Biden and Warren and kinda defending Sanders. So it seems they fear Biden and Warren more.

Bizarrely even Trump defends Sanders on twitter over the attacks by Warren ... don't know how he found the time

The right is more pragmatic and ruthless than the left.

The left often throws up a wet noodle type candidate that's diverse but they have 0 electoral appeal.

USA for example hasnt had a female leader.

NZ, UK, Australia, and Germany all have and they came from the right for the first one iirc.

The common thread for virtually every right wing party is tax cuts and as long as the leader supports that the right is a bit less concerned when push comes to shove at voting time.
Seems like the right is more viscerally motivated when they vote. The left is caught in nonsense like "should Andrew Yang have sang with the gospel choir at a black church?" (yeah this was [paraprhrase] an actual CNN article I saw in my feed this morning, the church actually invited him to sing with them, also who the **** cares).

The right is crazy but the left is weak, easily distracted and reactionary (the right is also reactionary but not as much), Yang & Sanders are the best, among other reasons, because they stick with their points & don't get sidelined into nonsense distractions thrown at them. Warren lost all respect when she went all out with this fake Bernie is sexist nonsense.

Even if Bernie made the comment doesn't mean he's sexist.

Observation on the parts if the US that are. Like it or not that's where the election will be won or lost.
