2020 US Election (Part One)

Having friends is good, but a political style generating antagonism without clear benefits is just stupid.

I watched Biden make a speech to his supporters at the end of the long day, and watched Sanders make a speech to his. Then a very clever talking head summarized them both in one sentence. "Biden is running to run against Donald Trump, Sanders is running to beat Joe Biden." The hostility towards everyone 'not us' rolling back and forth between Sanders and his followers was palpable, even through the TV. Biden had not a harsh word to say about anyone but Donald Trump. I think when the clear majority of the voters openly state that their number one issue is getting Trump out of office that is an appropriate place to focus.

Did Biden have no harsh words to say when he was trying to catch up? I mean, you cannot be so blind, come on.
Besides, antagonizing those who would vote for Bernie, is the easiest way to lose the election.

As much as I like Warren, she doesn't add anything to a Biden ticket. I'm hoping for Stacey Abrams. Woman, potential swing state, her big issue is voter suppression, which everyone can get behind, so gives her some progressive support, but she's a blank enough slate that it's a unified ticket.

Sanders' electability argument took a potentially terminal hit today. His case has been that he will bring out new voters. Well turnout was certainly up dramatically in Virginia, and he lost by 30 points. That's not exactly bringing out new voters in the way he wants. I would much prefer Sanders to win than Biden, but to be honest a large part of that is based on the idea that I think Biden would do poorly in the election against Trump. But today he's managed to steamroll his opposition in states where he has barely campaigned not set foot, despite his flaws being fully on display for almost a year about half a century. Maybe he'll have a better chance at winning the election than I thought.
FTFY

As to the running mate question...Obama Biden wasn't a unified ticket, it was a unifying ticket. Obama promised that he would temper some of his liberalism and give Biden's side of the party a fair listen by honest discussion with his VP. Biden can do the same thing with Warren. She is, without question, the most coherent voice for the actual issues the progressives are concerned about, even if she is less flashy than Sanders.

She is also seen as anti-Bernie, so having her as VP won't unify anything. Maybe Biden-Bernie would, but this is the DNC so it's not happening.
Btw, Warren came third in her own state. That's how popular she is.

Not really Bidens kinda running as everyone's favorite uncle who's a bit goofy.

Unintentional or not.

The other thing is a lot if Americans vote for the gave a beer or burger type candidate. I'm sure Hilary can make a great kale salad but Trump will chow down on a quarter pounder.

The candidates who went negative got eliminated.

LOL...but antagonizing those that would vote for Biden, that's brilliant campaigning Bern style, right?

Speaking of surprises...

Heard on Nbc that one poll showed Bernie being the only one with more than 15% (32%) in California, and that if that ends up being the result he would of course get all of the California delegates. That would be great ^_^

Singing yet? By the time the dust settles in California it looks unlikely that Sanders will come away with enough delegates to make up the differences he lost everywhere else today.

It's sad that with the most diverse field starting, Americans still have to choose from 3 old white dudes. I mean seriously, Biden, Trump and Sanders are all over 73 years old. I guess we'll get a young diverse Vice-President, someone like Stacey Abrams or I don't know. I know, it's an old point, but I couldn't post since Buttigieg and Klobuchar dropped out and it's just a point worth repeating.

Oh, and Sanders is way preferable to Biden. If you are a centrist, just look 4 years into the future.

Name recognition and charisma are the most important thing.

So what does everybody think of Joe Biden’s comeback? Did his margin in SC have a noticeable impact on today, or was there latent Bidenism in the Super Tuesday states?

I thought Sanders would be a close 2nd in a lot of these races but Biden has really widened that gap.

Is there still a path to victory for Sanders, or is he going to come up short in the delegate plurality race?

Looks done and dusted

The result, being a Biden win

Everything that is wrong in the world can be summed up by this sentence.

Biden's name recognition isn't all that positive. Theres a lot in his record that he will be attacked on and hes saddled with a liability of a son. Plenty of material for Trump to use.
Hes also not what I'd call charismatic. Bill Clinton, Obama and Sanders are all more charismatic than him whatever their flaws as people or politicians.
