2020 US Election (Part One)

the Fox opinion-shapers are terrified of her. They wouldn't be hanging on her every action like they do if they didn't see her as a threat.

That said, she is still very new, and I fear she is being saddled with unrealistic expectations. I'm part of that - I want her to do really well. But she's a freshman congressperson. The learning curve is steep.

Baby steps.

She does have a lot of smart people helping her, her questioning in committee on government corruption was well done.

As someone who lives very close to AOC's district, I find it hilarious how wrong right-wing commentary is about her policies, her constituents, her level of support, her experience - pretty much everything.

It would be easier to list the things they get right rather than correct everything they get wrong about her.

Add her national profile to the things that get misrepresented. Despite the GOP and their shills yammering about "AOC driving the conversation" a "caucus splitting vote" on her proposal that most people know was on the same wavelength as "we are protesting the ACA...thanks...house Republicans" isn't going to make or break anybody.

At least AOC doesn't have to worry about paying her rent now that she lives rent-free in FOX viewers' heads...

She's not paying rent? That's everything that's wrong with the country.

They even think a charming video of her dancing is a liability.

imo this just goes to show how dementedly racist those people are. They look at non-white people doing human stuff and they're like "my god...animals...beasts"[/Dave Chappelle white guy voice]

As has been repeatedly pointed out... The whole "Democrats are against walls!" refrain is a complete red herring at best and intellectually dishonest misdirection at worst. Democrats oppose Trump's national monument to racial prejudice, aka "The Wall"... not "walls" in general, jeez. One thing that's so eye-roll inducing about the argument is how blatantly flawed it is, coupled with how clever Conservatives/Republicans/"Libertarians" think it is.:shake:
WTH is the Green Monster?
LOLs Lex :smug:

Here he is... in the flesh :p

The Green Monster in front of "The Green Monster". "WALL" -y... get it? ;)

So far AOC has been a pleasant surprise. She has already shifted the conversation back to making America work for its people instead of corporations and their stock owners. I think underestimating how much people are sick of the corportocracy is to miss the point of why Trump won. Liberals just need to point out the Trump is the epitome of the swamp not a cure to it.
I will not say pleasant because she is far from that. Strident is closer. However, she is refreshing. She openly says what others think but seek to conceal. At some point in the future, she may come close enough to reality to start making plans for the concepts. Until practicality rears its head, she at least is unpretentious. In that way, she is in the legacy of my favorite Democrat, D P Moynahan. So is Bernie for that matter.

Except it isn't, at least when you listen to their rhetoric or examine their memes. Of course, it's a dog whistle for, "RESIST, HATE TRUMP, RESIST, EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE, etc." Regardless, it's a fair assessment of the argument they actually present.

In other news, there was an article in Reuters. The clown car is beginning to resemble a cattle call. The article projects 20 candidates into debates.

That's not what "dog whistle" is.

@onejayhawk

What reality is this you speak of? You mean the reality that “all your PCs are going to be gone with no oil industry because of plastics” talk? I swear the moronic comments I read about how the green deal can never happen exceed every other stupid conversation I have with right wingers these days. I’m convinced it is caused by a total disconnection from science and thus how reality actually works.

Anyways please do go on about how she is disconnected from reality and you are not. Tell me one problem with the outline of the green deal and I will have a rebuttal for you. If you haven’t read it yet just admit that and I will link it for you. It’s only like 20 pages long double spaced. I’m sure you can slog through it.

AOC is celebrating her triumphant victory over Amazon

a win-win for Trump

This is probably true in a sense, but its only an indication of our poor education provided throughout the mid west. The outline clearly states dozens of times technologically feasible, which means it is grounded in reality. The reality is there is a heck of a lot the green deal can do for us now including providing renewable electricity for almost 80% of homes in the mainland. Many businesses could go full renewable as well. The nation needs to move to more mass transit and the train system needs to be more integrated and cheaper to help the nation move its labor pools around more effectively.

Also without a commitment to full employment the lower and middle class will never have any negotiating power with the capital. If we want to keep a free market system going at this moment in time (huge population bubble/increase in automation) we need to put some weights on the scales in favor of labor.

It is not even close to technologically feasible in the next generation, much less 10 years.

On the general subject of high-speed rail replacing airplanes, I refer you to the situation in California.

You still haven't read it obviously.

and in the dark about what is feasible now? Of course remember that by continually mentioning that it is to focus on what is feasible now explicitly makes your statement false. You are focusing on the statement of the overall goal and not paying attention to the minutiae you are doing this for political reasons, but in so doing show your partisanship.
