2020 US Election (Part One)

I'm not convinced Republican voters hate Bernie all that much... in fact when I think about it, I'd guess that if you asked a lot of them which potential Democratic nominee they liked the best (or disliked the least) most would say Bernie. Because a lot of the time, its not all about policies and such... some of it just boils down to the feels.
His Fox town hall went pretty well. I think he did some good prep for the gotchas.

The thing we have to remember is during his 2016 campaign Trump lauded Scotland and Australia's healthcare systems. He said, "everyone's going to be covered" about his plan and when asked who'd pay for it he said the government. Obviously hes flipped on this since 9 million people have lost insurance directly because of his actions attempting to tank the ACA. I'm not so sure his voters have changed their minds though. Single payer is polling above 50% with Republicans and 70% overall. Its obnoxious to constantly hear we're the richest country in the world but for some weird reason we can't afford something all those countries who aren't so blessed can afford.

Bernie may be running as a D but he's always had an I next to his name. Republicans know the Democrat leadership hates Bernie so I dont think his D will repulse them in the same way other D candidates would.

Every time I think of Bernie being the D candidate I just think Barry Goldwater. That didn't end well.

LOL how on Earth are those two analogous? Did Bernie threaten to nuke a third world country and I missed it?

The NRA disagrees

Maybe now if he's up against someone with a worse record, but they helped Sanders get elected back in the 90s. The NRA is out of step with gun owners on several issues and largely supports the GOP.

If the Democrats voted in primaries exclusively on gun laws Sanders would lose to just about everyone running for Prez, I cant think of a more pro-gun Democrat.

They both don't represent a majority of the party and would generate too much negative reaction from a lot in the party. Barry being more libertarian and Bernie being more Socialist. So I think it would open the door for Trump to be re-elected. Something I would prefer didn't happen.

Look at his policies and how they poll among Democrat VOTERS, forget the party. The voters want what he advocates for, UHC, free community college, shift to renewables, higher min wage, etc.I

He's pushed that stuff so far into the mainstream that Kamala had to jump on the single payer train.

While I support some of those issues, it's going to be so easy for Trump to just scream SOCIALISM. It won't end well. *sigh*

Yeah I mean as we all know when the Democrats nominate a good centrist it becomes impossible for the GOP to call them a socialist, and none of the GOP voters believe it

While that's a fair point.
It's not the democrats that I worry about believing it.
Do you think that if Biden was the candidate that anyone would take him being called a socialist seriously? (not an endorsement of big Joe)

Literally, I think tens of millions of people already believe he is a socialist and cannot be convinced otherwise.

None of which would ever vote for a democrat so really quite meaningless to the discussion.
There is always going to be idiots. And they must be allowed to vote.

But Centrists cannot win a primary. It's a vicious circle. The Republicans have their own problems with Tea Party types winning primaries.

It's not meaningless. It will be a distraction and may take time and resources to counter.

Biden wouldn't have to counter it. He could just laugh it off. Like what Trump does when he gets called a pussy grabbing moron.

#yangweed 2020

All I know about that dude is he supports basic income, anything else?
Decriminalization of MJ and release of pot related non-violent offenders (from prison), value-added tax so big corps pay their fair share in taxes instead of paying nothing.

Legal hemp is a generation overdue. VAT is a different minefield.

Now that's change I can believe in.

Except I strongly doubt Yang's ability to make it to the final four, let alone win the nom :p
