As an opponent of every war we've been in the last 55 years I've been repeatedly told to love it or leave it, race aint got nothing to do with that. The creators of South Park told people who didn't support the war in Afghanistan to cheer for the team or get out of the stadium. If 'brown' people are the only ones who can't be told to leave, is race a factor?
"Love it or leave it" is not "go back". "Go back" implies you came from somewhere else in the first place. He's just using birtherism all over again. No comparison between the two.

Yeah, I don't think that quite equates to the love it or leave it days.

Well, is it racist to tell someone who does nothing but complain to come back after showing us how it is done? Why is everyone trying to tie race to that? Is that your actual, secret level of respect for people of color?

The reason why it's racist is because Trump invited them to leave their country, and suggested they go to a different country, and that entire package comments is predicated on the idea that they belong somewhere else. Or could belong somewhere else. And that belief is built on the fact that they are racially different from his perspective.

He thinks of them as being from somewhere else. As we've all seen, it doesn't even make sense for three of the four people he targeted. But he assumed that they were foreigners, some people think he assumed that because of their color

It's not just 'leave', it's 'go back'.

If you're not just sealioning, your racism detector is broken. You want to fix it

It's literally a textbook example in official government documents of examples of racist dialogue.

But like I said, this line of reasoning breaks down completely in the second half of the tweets' text. Where he not only tells them to come back but also lampoons the party leadership. As a whole, the material is a parody designed to make you mad and defend the congresswomen. There is a bit of irony that Pelosi would like to see these congresswomen marginalized, and Trump wants them to be the face of the party.

Yes, Trump wants them to be the face of the party so he can push the racist button more.

Are you suggesting that Donald isn't a male? Now I'm confused.

No, even jackasses have a male sex.

No, even jackasses have a male sex.
But Hutts don't.

None of the reason breaks down, because the original insult was built off of racist instincts. Telling someone to leave and then come back is easily neutral. Telling four people to go back where they came from barely make sense when they are Americans, unless you associate them with being from somewhere else. Which he obviously did, and not just a little. I know that you're happy to justify it, and want to seem to defend it. But you're wrong, it's a racist tweet, and your racism detector is broken.

I know he's trolling. We all know. It's because a reasonable portion of the electorate likes that the White House is now publishing trolling comments made by a hired employee that frequently fails to spell-check before publishing outreach documents. It's racist trolling because it aggravates the opponents and the base doesn't mind such things. Now, Trump has long reached out to the racist base, and because of his incoherence it's hard to figure out how racist he actually is. Like, who knows if he originally thought all four women were actually immigrants? It's easy to read the tweet that way. You have to assume other things about him to say that he probably didn't.

Trump routinely makes a mess on his twitter feed, so normally the critics of this president find it convenient to take him as literally as possible, rather than look at the meaning of his statements. Literally but not seriously, said the Atlantic.

But I suppose here where there is no overt racism it's more convenient for media to slap on their highly-tuned racism detector hats, discard the portions of the material that don't support the cause, and selectively read deep into only the subtextual meanings that make it feasible to play the "everything I disagree with is racism" shtick and excoriate people who obviously aren't as subtle and vicious as they are. The old branding scheme I was highlighting earlier with the list of headlines. Trump and his Racist Tweets™. Consolidate the voter blocs.

Meanwhile the president has to be pretty happy with how things proceeded. The left's branding on this is becoming so obvious, and even if his goal here was equally obvious you still took the bait. He seems to be very good at bringing out the worst in people when he wants to. The democrats might continue to rally to the defense of Ilhan Omar during the election season. She might not be as outright stupid as Cortez, but she's a genuine anti-semite bigot and a tragic waste of good food. Very awkward situation for everyone! Sad!
