In Illinois, I've never waited for more that 20-30 minutes since I usually plan my trips there during the week in supposedly less busy times. But that was before the new push for "REAL ID" which I hear is causing nightmares.

Agreed, because it's an OLD joke that has run through politics for decades. Been out of fashion for a while, because the premise is that voters are gullible hicks, and the day when voters were able to laugh at themselves are long past. Modern voters are so sure they are god's gift to democracy that only kissing their asses is allowed.

I'm not looking for anyone to kiss their asses, just suggesting that "yeah, we aren't interested in your vote, go vote elsewhere" is a clearly flawed strategy. Notice that "____ ___, ya RINO, go vote for the Democrats," hasn't actually been a long term winner for the GOP.

Idk, it doesn't seem much more flawed than "you didn't get Biden's HILARIOUS joke because you are too arrogant to laugh at yourself"...but then, Joe Biden seems rather fond of telling people who criticize or question him to vote for Trump, so....

If you can't see that voters have totally abandoned the ability to laugh at themselves that's okay. Perhaps the seriousness of the times has made it a necessity. But politics used to be a lot more fun, so I find the change regrettable.

Maybe that's because the Republicans have spent the intervening decades pushing the "Democrats are elitists who think they're better than you!" thing as hard as they could.

I always thought it was the fallout of the Carter administration and the Iranian Embassy Hostage crisis.

Reagan committed treason by promising the Iranians arms sales and the release of frozen assets in exchange for delaying the hostage release until after the election.
