2020 US Election (Part Two)

The budget pressures of an aging population are going to get worse with time, not better, because the population is aging.

The egg in the snake is passing though. The boomers* caused a revolution in society at every step of our lives just through sheer numbers. Our parents produced mobs of kids that created the demand for public education reform just to contain us. We made Wonder bread and how to conveniently feed mobs of kids the core issues of the times. Then we made dealing with teen aged angst a national necessity. Then we made "how the heck do we employ all these people?" the national issue. Then we made retirement the major issue. Now how the heck to take care of all these frickin' old people is the issue. But we are gonna die and if you all just hang on it is gonna be okay.

*not used as a pejorative, just a descriptive reference

The problem is that the dying doesn't just end with the boomers. Our population is permanently shifting older, and that trend is only getting worse as millenials forego kids at record rates. The number of old, dying people as a portion of the population is only going to get bigger from here on out I believe, even if the absolute numbers fall.

And why wouldn't the relevant county/ies just hold it at the real time i.e. change their opening hours by one hour?

Poll hours are mandated by the state and not having them uniform invites questions of equal protection under law. "I get to vote after work because I live in the bulk of the state, someone in the bit counties doesn't because polls closed in 'real time' but an hour earlier in his local time."

I whine about it just to fill time while I was waiting.

Now I'll whine because CNN isn't calling Illinois due to some polling places being held open an extra hour...but the exit polling and the vote that is in and the preliminary polling are all agreeing on a twenty point Biden win and we could just call it, IMO.

Ah, yes, another product of the decision to hold elections during working days.

This was what I was alluding to with my great leap backwards.
If things get really bad society could make employing women illegal or fire them en masse like after WW2.

Society will cope fine. You might not like that society it could go more 1930s or MMT socialism.

Long term we can't really say. Black plague killed of feudalism, this could kill off liberal capitalism.

Do you ever read what you write and compare it to what you quote to see if it relates, at all, to anything that could be described as an ongoing discussion?

I am STILL waiting (and it's been quite a while) for you, or any of the posters who constantly go and up down about, to tell me where all these true, real, ideological Fascists who have taken over American government or are anything but a fringe presence. Attacking me for perceived relevance to bring it up (when it was already mentioned - AGAIN - with still no real evidence or verification EVER having been presented on these forums) several threads before I took up the issue again, including a post prior by yourself, does not win the debate, or make a coup d'grace on my question, or "shut me down," or prove me wrong, or make a fool of me (moreso, making a fool of yourself) - it still means this lingering issue is unproven, and since it's an issue where the burden is on you and others making such accusations, I stand "undefeated," if you will.

It has been acknowledged that their presence is great; it just has been also argued that their numbers are not.

The problem is about half of Fascist ideology is directly antagonistic and antithetical to half of the general Republican platform, even if many parts of the other half of each are easily compatible. That doesn't seem to be sinking into a lot of people's heads.

Nobody here argues that the GOP is a coherent whole. Most of us describe it as a coalition of angry selfish people who are united in hate.

I can see the GoP going full Putin's Russia, not Adolf Hitler.

Nahhhh. Millennials foregoing kids is too late to really make that difference. The dip in demographics through the seventies and eighties is gonna show up. You guys just need to quit finding ways to keep old people alive longer and longer and longer.

Why is net population increase an inherently GOOD thing. We have seven billion people on Earth, and fuel, food, and employment capabilities are not nearly, optimal, varying by nation. If this increases unchecked, middle economies will become like developing nations, and First World nations will become like middle economies in terms of aggregate living standard, and developing nations will become outright feudal Hellholes. Further down the line, and up the total population count, it'll become far, far worse...

You are asking me this because...?

At a wild guess because once again you didn't bother with even reading what you are quoting.

So, just in case I now have your attention...

The boomers are 'the egg in the snake.' We vastly outnumber the generation before us, and we also vastly outnumber the generation behind us. That demographic bump has had, and still has, a massive impact on society at every step along our path.

No doubt, but that isn't what's happening. What's happening is an absolute savaging of the economy. Current estimate, US unemployment rate for April is going to be 20%.

It's been a while and I kind of missed everybody.

20% unemployment is based on kids in the restaurant industry being ordered to stay at home?

Apparently the ideal number is 2 billion which was the 1940's.

I have trouble believing that, because if I ever play MOO2 with the default humans, the population capacity of our home planet is 12.

I assume that to be billions.

It's based on a wider "shelter in place" order, I suspect. In LA County, which is (last I looked) still on a selective 'these places will close' order, is still way beyond just restaurant workers.

I think primaries can be delayed or not even held. States routinely dont even bother with them so I'm surprised the Ohio courts required the primary to be run. But the general election is another matter, thats federally (and state) mandated.

The court's reasoning, which is hard to argue with, is that the early voting that already happened is going to be far removed in time from the open polls, so it raises questions of equal opportunity. Whether that was quality jurisprudence or not I really have no opinion on.

We are seeing one down side consequence of the better access through early voting. Florida shows that a quarter million people cast votes that effectively don't count since the person voted for subsequently dropped out.

Primary election dates, regulation, or even existence are not mentioned once in the U.S. Constitution. They're just for political party nominations (political parties are also not mentioned once in the U.S. Constitution). The date and regularity of Federal General Elections (Presidential and Congressional) ARE specifically stated in the U.S. Constitution, and legally would need nothing short of an amendment to alter. Primary election dates and general election dates are a huge magnitude apart in legal significance and solidity.
