2020 US Election (Part Two)

This is only if you believe that at the time a Washington Post story could have deflected the course of events enough to save lives. The obvious counterpoint being that news agencies have exposed 20,000 lies and in not a single case has it stopped Trump from just repeating the lie.

I mean, I'm not suggesting that Woodward revealing this would necessarily have changed anything. But him keeping it secret for months so he could put it in a book doesn't exactly look good...

I also read an article on 538 that claims that Trump's support amongst the elderly has gone over to Biden, which was actually a little bit shocking. I don't see how he wins without the elderly.

For all their faults the elderly aren't really dumb and they pay attention to the few things that really matter to them. "Let's take a payroll tax holiday" directly equates to "let's stop funding social security." While the MMP folks can and will say "the government doesn't need to take in money to put it out" under current accounting process long about February the Social Security Administration hits the marker where they tell congress "unless you make up from general funds we have to suspend making payments." Congress may or may not.

The elderly may listen to Trump far more than we would prefer, but they ALWAYS listen to the Social Security Administration.

Can't argue, but have you seen Bob Woodward? It's not like we are marring the face of Adonis here.

See, that's just greed. Spread a million of that cash around you can buy enough support to make sure you get away with the other eight million and the coke.
One thing about this type of villain (they actively support and approve of Donald Trump's methods, btw) is that they really always think they'll get away with it.

No you didn't. You're twisting his words.

He held it off until he could confirm all parts of it. He knew he had an ultimate deadline of before the election, though, if it was going to have any value.
I don't think so. He says that he is releasing it so it will have an impact on the election and he explicitly states in the book that he is opposed to Trump winning. That doesn't mean the stuff in the book isn't true, but he still has an agenda, and the release of the book is being done strategically to suit that agenda. Pointing that out isn't "twisting his words".

I don't know whether you people are even paying attention to the part of notAmerica just south of the border, but Mexico's seeing protests against its ridiculous new president (corrupt & science denialist who lives in his own reality) for allowing the US to keep stealing water from northern Mexico (the country downriver from the western US). If Mexico had anything remotely near a competent or even sane administration you'd be in deep scheiße.

Also in other news Microsoft reveals that China, Russia and Iran have been trying to hack into both the main US presidential campaigns. Well, it's more of a ‘confirms’ than ‘reveals’ at this point.

How does Mexico's administration matter? You think a competent administration in Mexico would mean they stood a ghost of a chance of pressing a case against the US? C'mon.

That water was stolen almost a hundred years ago. Nothing is gonna be done about it now and literally everyone knows it.

I don't think it matters tuppence-halfpenny how many Donald Trump appointees fall out with him and write a critical book.
They will always be seen as likely suffering from sour grapes and having an agenda, trying to make money out of it.

The thing is Donald Trump has this habit of being unnecessarily rude and while the elderly may be more willing than the
snowflake youngsters to put up with a bit of the cantankerous, there comes a point when after four years, they get bored by it.

Elderly will start paying attention if their investments start falling over and/or Covid starts killing their friends.

Apparently Bidens leading amount boomers now as well so yeah I posted a link earlier.

Elderly will start paying attention if their investments start falling over ....
Most of the elderly that have investments know that the market goes up and down. Those who will most concerned will be the folks who are just retiring now or soon. In addition, retired folks often depend upon interest earned rather than stocks for income. 0% rates have screwed them big time. Low rates on bonds and money market accounts will be more upsetting. For the most part stock prices only matter if you have to sell them.

On any topic, Trump says six things. One will be wrong, two will be evil, and when will be approximating the truth.

Woodward probably has a bunch of notes Trump saying many different conflicting things. After the fact, it's very easy to publish selectively in order to make Trump look stupid. You can't really publish in real time, unless you're going to bet which way the future is actually going to go on the pandemic

No... we aren't:nope: we've got our own problems.

So what's all this about then?
A hundred years ago the US decided it owned the Colorado River. The Colorado River Delta wetlands subsequently dried up. All of a sudden this has been noted as a grotesque environmental issue...mostly by environmentalist types in the US. Since the Colorado River Delta is actually in Mexico this makes it an international incident. Doesn't change the fact that the incident has been functionally over for half a century, but it's exciting...in Mexico, and in Argentina I guess.

It’s hard to play counterfactual with what Woodward knew and when he knew it. If he published it in February, would there be a denial? Would the administration have changed policy? If the federal government took drastic measures, how would local governments or political opposition react? I’d be wary of tying the question of journalistic ethics to the potential outcomes had Woodward published shortly after said interview.

Anyway, I’m just kind of tired of President Trump. Not so much his pre-coronavirus policies (the coronavirus, I’m not going to talk about here because it’ll get way off my point) but rather the constant intrigue that surrounds the man and his inner circle; the leaks, the denials, the tweeting, the anger directed towards him and the total collapse of anything approaching rational discussion of policy rather than the personal animosity of which so much complaining seems to stem.

I’ll grant that all U.S. Presidents are subject to this in one way or another; Clinton with the philandering, Bush with the neoconservatives, Obama and his tan suit or red lines or Libya or whatever. But now, I feel like it is getting totally out of control. I think both parties are responsible for this because the Democrats, as much as they say they don’t play dirty like the Republicans, they feed into it just as much and they think they can pee in the pool too so long as it’s clear.

I don’t like political dynasties, and I’m probably going to skip mailing a ballot this year (again!) but geez, if I did vote I think I might write in David Eisenhower (President Eisenhower’s grandson.) He’s married to a Nixon, so it’s like voting for the whole fifties again!

Who wants to "play counterfactual"?

I knew what Woodward knew when he knew it. Anyone with a brain knew what Woodward knew when he knew it. What does that have to do with the price of bats in China? Not a damn thing.

Trump was LYING.

That wasn't news. That wasn't even mildly surprising.

That had been going on for three years and apparently there was nothing to be done about it so here we are.

Woodward exposes Trump in March, or whenever the earliest exposure is possible.

Nothing changes. It's just another scandal that would see anybody impeached by an impartial congress, put it in the pile next to the other dozen impeachable scandals.

Would it even count as "exposing" Trump?

The facts that Trump was denying were already out there. Was there anyone who really thought that the president of the US was genuinely misinformed? He was just lying. We all knew he was lying. A journalist with a tape recorder telling us he was lying wouldn't make any difference.

It's just the deflection strategy of the cons 'no it's not trump's fault it's actually the journalist who is to blame lmao i am a good faith reasonable republican look at me teehee'

An actual GOP Senator wouldn't even go that far. He sees nothing to even blame anyone for. "I don't pay any attention to these hit books. There will be another one out tomorrow. They don't mean anything."

What is there to "rationally discuss"?
"Hi, let's have a rational discussion about Trump's policies. If you support his concentration camps, I think you belong in a concentration camp yourself"
