Films to be remade include The Birds (the Hitchcock one), Beauty and the Beast, Alien Nation, Batman ( three new movies apparently), Ben-Hur, Creature from the Black Lagoon and (maybe) The Crow...

Talk about lack of ideas :\

Don't forget a Memento remake is in the works.

Maybe it's just my distaste for Emma "YouForMe" Watson, but by god, this picture is creepy as hell.

But I'm not surprised, given that it seems like remakes are almost guaranteed to make good profit, even if they're bad. The moviegoer gets what he deserves. :crazyeye:

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is getting a film adaptation. So that's:

An film adaptation of an amusement park ride adapted from a cartoon adapted from a book.

My favorites are when a movie gets adapted from a book which spawns a game which spawns a film/tv adaptation of the game.

They already remade Cinderella live action and it made tons of money, so that's probably what disney is doing, remaking all the princess movies as live films. I have a 3 year old daughter so I get this stuff all the time. They can slap tinkerbelle on any piece of crap and we will go see it cus it's something to do with her lol

I don't mind remakes as long as they add something new or are an improvement on the first go-around.

Unfortunately, that rarely ends up being the case.

I was surprised to discovery that the Denzel Washington remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 was far superior to the original. :goodjob:

In going over the list of upcoming remakes, I see that many of them are of movies that were terrible [I'm looking at you, Flash Gordon]. So, they're bound to be better. But remaking Heston's Ben Hur?? :spank:

There's a musical version called The Slipper and the Rose, starring Richard Chamberlain. I found it online a couple of weeks ago and refreshed my memory about why I liked it.

Apparently it's because I still like the three songs I could sort of remember, plus... Richard Chamberlain (I'm still trying to find a copy of his version of Man in the Iron Mask).

And speaking of Man in the Iron Mask, it took me several tries before I could tolerate the Leonardo DiCaprio version. Some movies just don't need to be remade.

But remaking Heston's Ben Hur?? :spank:
:gripe:

NO.

There is absolutely no need to remake this one. Yeah, I get that modern audiences mostly don't know who Charlton Heston was, other than a gun nut who didn't like talking apes. But modern audiences also don't seem to have the attention span it takes to watch that chariot race all the way through. That's one of my favorite movie scenes ever, and I don't even like horses.

Other movies on that list that don't need to be remade include:

The Crow: The only way this one could be improved on is if someone invents a time machine, goes back, and prevents the prop gun from killing Brandon Lee. They managed to do an adequate workaround, but I'd far rather the actor hadn't died from an on-set accident.

If anyone revisits the Crow franchise, it had better be to do a wrapup of the TV series. It is just so damned unfair that it ended the way it did. It had been renewed, then a bunch of deals among studios and production companies ended up with the show being owned by a company that decided to cancel it - not for lack of ratings, but because they weren't into that sort of gothic fantasy. It's annoyed me for 16 years that I don't know how the second season was supposed to continue.

Cube: Why? There are already two sequels. The first one was claustrophobic and creepy, and while I realize it's pretty tame compared to a lot of psychological thriller movies, I found it plenty scary. And if anyone's interested, there's some decent Cube fanfic on fanfiction.net.

Highlander: Yawn. I prefer the TV series. Yes, both of them.

Logan's Run: Nothing wrong with the original, but if it's remade it would be interesting to see one that actually follows the novel.

Short Circuit: Why remake something that was cute, funny, and enjoyable? Oh, right. Because nowadays there's more nudity and profanity allowed.

But I do have to snicker that Dune isn't on that list. Kevin J. Anderson was so sure a few years ago (as was Byron Merritt, who runs the official Dunenovels forum) that not only one Dune movie, but three, were going to be made soon (the plan was to break the first novel into three movies). It's also a bit off-putting, too - this is a huge part of the reason that a Spanish-language Dune fan film was issued a cease-and-desist order. So the people doing the fan film got C&D'd basically for nothing.

I'm one of the few people that didn't like The Birds. They used real birds and when someone was attacked they didn't try to defend themselves at all. They just stand there waving their arms and screaming. Why don't they try to at least stomp them smash the birds? There was the one scary scene where you see the person who was killed by them.

A modern remake might be able to improve it.

 I feel your pain.

I guess we'll be seeing more of those live action adaptations of their successful classics in the near future. I guess once beauty and the beast is done, sleeping beauty isn't too far off...or snow white (though there have been two of these not long ago)

I'd like to see a sequel to Dark City. Could start with the discovery of a propulsion system for the city. Off to find the planet of their origin perhaps.

Always considered that movie to leave the greatest unanswered questions, like where are they? Are there any original memories left anywhere? How did the aliens get the citizens from their planet? Must be a propulsion system or ship tied up somewhere...

One of my favorite flicks, and Jennifer Connelly, my my.

...Richard Chamberlain (I'm still trying to find a copy of his version of Man in the Iron Mask).

Amazon has a Region 2 version, used, selling for $6.49 + $3.99 shipping. I have his Region 2 German version of The Count of Monte Cristo. It plays okay on my DVD player, and I can select English language, so it's all good. :goodjob:

Region 2 doesn't help me, and that shipping quote doesn't apply for Canada. If I buy a DVD/CD from Amazon.ca, the shipping is $3.49 CAD. If I buy it from the American Amazon site, it's over $12 USD. Given the exchange rate between our two countries, let's just say I'm not buying much in American funds these days - just the occasional game from Big Fish and I might give myself an art card or two for Christmas.

But I did get back to my Amazon Mechanical Turk stuff so I can redeem it for something from Amazon.com eventually. I've got my eye on a couple of books.

If they are going to make live-action remakes of the Disney Princess movies like Cinderella, they'd better incorporate a Game of Thrones like sauce which includes lots of violence, intrigue and sex. That way, they'll do something where the originals didn't dare to go.
