IDK about you, but that seems to line up fairly well with history. So, what's the problem? ;)

Historically, Zoroastrianism and Buddhism were founded in the 500s BC.

But leaving that stuff aside, I'm rather judging the passage of time with how it would go in the base game of Civ4, along with an extra 3000 years for all the extra techs. Given that only 3000 years have passed and it is 3000 BC, and one distant civ has already developed Iron Working, I get the feeling this is the kind of game that will have gunpowder and rifling by 500 AD and nukes by 900 AD

It just bugs me. I can't stop the feeling :scan:

It seems to me that with Patch E ( will try F next) the "No Tech Brokering" is broken.

I can resell the techs gotten from AI and from other players.

Did you try to turn off both Game Options and BUG Option/A New Dawn tab option?

Well, neither Zappara nor Afforess ever claimed this game to be a historical simulator. The dates are there to give you a feeling of time passing.

But the real behind-the-scenes happenings are from game turns. For Marathon speed, it is 1875 turns. So better to argue from turns angle if you still want to get Afforess to understand your view of point on religions.

Well, i cannot turn it off from BUG Options/Diplomacy , as those are grayed out in MultiPlayer game. ( There was not corresponding item about it in AND tab ).

Post problem in another thread ? Resolve by modifing files where the settings are stored.

- Oh, and another thing - TWO optison for the same thing ? I understand the need of changing stuff ingame, but this is a bit silly.
Which brings me to settings in general - is it just me or do settings Reset them with each new game ? ( not loading a game, starting a game) ? They do not seem to be constant for me, sometimes it is just visual they are all reset, sometimes the visual stuff ( "event signs" for example ) are rembemered but AND options are not. etc etc etc..

------------

Another problem RoM 2.92 and AND 1.74E - "Dark Age" ( Or Depression , later on). I find myself to be constantly in them. When it ends, i get 1 turn of normal activity, then it's on again. As it is quite a big hit on workers, economy and prodoction, it is fairly hard to keep playing. Golden age works fine, starts and ends, and keeps me out of Dark age for 30 turns or so.
But the question is if Dark age is smth connected to Civics ? or just How big your empire is ?

I like the Dark age concept, but they should be as rare as golden ages, not constant.

I am getting a hard crash to desktop in the attached save. Simply end the turn and the crash will occur.

Isn't the whole point of the game, the entire reason for its existence, to be a historical simulator? Why bother using human civilizations and names and technologies instead of just "Kingdom of Bleen" and "Bleenian Empire" with the ability to research laser swords and walking on four legs in a pre-industrial era?

I don't know how the hell to convert it to turns over years because the way the game plays in terms of time-shifting has constantly changed between Civ4 base, RoM and A New Dawn, and most spectacularly in 1.73 to 1.74. Turn 500 in a Marathon game in 1.73 would be around 40 BC while turn 500 in a Marathon game in 1.74 is around 2000 BC.

It's just too :):):):)ing much too :):):):)ing soon, and technologies are CONSTANTLY being researched CENTURIES before their real world equivalents!

It essentially eliminates the possibilities in the game when the Future Era is ALWAYS arriving in 1659 AD and such, Religion Fignut is ALWAYS being researched over 9000 years before it does in reality.

That's not a confirmed fact.

You're right. It's actually only 1500-1200BC where its confirmed through archeological evidence.

Yes and no. It isn't supposed to be that rigid. A historical simulator of that vein would probably be EUIII.

Familiarity.

It lines up pretty well in Eternity pre-patch F up until 400 AD I believe.

Turn off the date then. I did.

When I added 2 zeroes to the end of all the techs in the game (1000 turns to get the Wheel? lol) I basically turned off the date, time, and mastery victory. When there's only 4500 turns in Eternity and I made it so it takes 1000 turns to get the Wheel with one city without Elder Council, I was bound to be teching to slow and then I realize that no matter what, tech isn't going to line up evenly with the date.

Ever.

It comes quicker on smaller maps, slower on larger maps and no matter what, you won't reach the Industrial Revolution right in the 1800s 100% of the time. The date is only there to establish a feeling of time but you can always easily turn off the date and come up with dates yourself. It's a game first, historical simulator second.

I can't tell the difference. Sure, a date is fun to look at but it will never line up so why bother?

Amen! :)

Hi, I know this has been mentioned before, so I'm asking to see if I can somehow lessen it.

When the game file gets to a certain size (usually around 1400 kb, really speeds up at 1600 kb), I get memory allocation failure errors, which cause the game to shut down to the desktop. Normally I just save every turn and go back to the last turn, and it doesn't usually happen twice. In the beginning, this is ok because it is rare. However, as the file size gets bigger, I start getting CTD every 5 or so turns, and then every turn, until it becomes unbearable. This happens on the Large map, and while I can switch to standard map, I find dealing with CTDs better than dealing with a smaller map.

In any case, is there anyway I can reduce these? I've already set the graphics level to the lowest possible, so that can't be done.

buy more RAM. your computer is out of allocatable memory and crashes.

I wonder if it is possible for the game to look at the average tech advancement of the best 5 civ's and then work out what date it would be historically. the time gap between years would jump around a bit but it would line up.

I have just grabbed the latest patch...

I have spotted that the tech tree numbers have gone up a little :)

However I cannot understand why it takes about 60 - 90 turns to build a wonder, yet I have just spotted my two workers will take over 600 turns to build a plantation.

Was this an intended move with the patch?

I am playing an eternal game so I appreciate the time changes for tech, so I have a 4600 tech now costing 35000 hmmm, ok I can see that... but it still takes me 6 - 20 turns to build something in my cities and a barmy amount of time to build a farm…

Is this going to stay or be tweaked a little?

SM

Is this the only solution ? because i got the same problem... on a laptop.

Diplomacy Settings were never re-written to work in MP, so they are disabled in MP.
- Oh, and another thing - TWO optison for the same thing ? I understand the need of changing stuff ingame, but this is a bit silly.

You don't need to change both of them. It's like having two light switches for one light. They both turn it on or off.

Dark Ages are hidden and disabled for a reason. It's not a feature, and should not be played with.
