[RD] Abortion, once again

New York has definitely interfered with the Seneca's in the past. When that one blind dude was their governor he refused to fix the stretch of I-86 that passed through through their lands due to disputes regarding excise taxes on gas and cigarettes.
Yes, NM tribes often wrangle with the State over taxes. Withholding gambling tax revenue usually brings the state to the negotiating table. NM has 19 tribes; large and small; rich and poor.

It would be difficult unless they can pass a federal ban law, but even then, tribes would be very resistant to any attempts to diminish sovereignty. Of course any such federal law would supersede all the state laws so I'm sure many states would object. Things would get complicated.

I mean in the sense that there will be a new round of Indian Wars if the pro-lifers get sufficient control of the machinery of the state.

@Birdjaguar A quick glance at your map tells me that even if reservation clinics became a thing most of them are so geographically isolated I doubt they can move the needle all that much.

A woman in Jacksonville, FL seeking an abortion would be looking at a 7-8 hour car ride, minimum.
Looking at the relative Reservation locations, it is not 7-8 hours minimum from Jacksonville to Miami, nor is it 7-8 hours from Jacksonville to Pensacola, nor is it 7-8 hours from Jacksonville to Rock Hill, SC, not even close. Its a lot more like 5 hours for each of those. But still your point is correct in that limiting abortions to Reservations would create a substantial hardship in terms of travel time. I'm guessing that wanting/needing an abortion is one of those things that folks would be willing to take a 5 hour drive for, but its still a hardship.

Even putting that aside, the larger issue is that map shows virtually no Reservations in numerous midwestern and Appalachian states. So the some folks living there would have those 8 hour drives you referenced to seek an abortion, assuming that Reservations were the only place to go.

I'd watch East St. Louis.

Texas, OK, Florida, LA, SC, MS, AL, KS, WY, ID, UT, AZ could all have clinics in opposition to state laws.

Some people who live near the Canada/U.S. border use clinics across the border because they're much closer than the clinics in their own country. This is now in jeopardy.

both of these quotes depends on the state in question. i don't expect florida or arizona will ban abortions early enough that the demand for state-banned abortion in reservations would be sufficient to run clinics specifically for that purpose for example.

Most tribes already have IHS clinics and their own Healthcare facilities. Adding such a service may not be difficult at all.

IMO, the idea that "Native American Tribes" will totes start setting up abortion clinics on Reservations is just... silly. I don't know how anyone got into an actual discussion on this, other than a hypothetical. It's not A Thing, that's gonna happen.

You don't know tribes. Asserting tribal sovereignty is a motivator. If one starts, others will follow.

I admit I don't "know tribes". So my opinion is based on nothing. I just don't see them setting up a bunch of Abortion Clinics in their territories in response to RvW being overturned in roughly a month. I hope I'm wrong. I like the idea. Just don't see it happening.

Poland's government criticised over 'pregnancy register' amid strict abortion laws

Poland's government is facing criticism over a new provision that requires doctors to record each pregnancy in the country.

Opposition MPs have labelled the medical data list as a "pregnancy register" and an infringement of women's rights.

Poland has placed a near-total ban on abortion and activists are concerned that women will face unprecedented surveillance from the ruling conservative party.

Under the order by Health Minister Adam Niedzielski, doctors must now record information about pregnancies, including any past or current illnesses, medical visits, treatments and blood type.

[...]

So... not only the US is nuts.

Just Religion screwing things up as per
I'm reminded of Romania, when Ceaucescu was still in charge there. Any woman who was pregnant and visited a doctor had better still be pregnant at her next visit if she hadn't given birth. If she miscarried or had an abortion (illegal there), she was in a huge amount of trouble.

A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder near Kavanaugh's house.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/06/08/kavanaugh-threat-arrest-justice/

A man with a gun and a knife was detained by police early Wednesday near the Maryland home of Brett M. Kavanaugh after making threats against the Supreme Court justice, according to local and federal officials.

Nicholas John Roske, 26, of Simi Valley, Calif., was charged with attempted murder of a Supreme Court justice after he called authorities and said he was having suicidal thoughts and wanted to kill a specific justice, according to federal prosecutors.

Hopefully this incident will spur the democrats in the House to go ahead and pass the bill increasing funding for the Supremes' security they have been sitting on a few weeks now.

McConnell attacked House Democrats for not passing legislation to increase security for justices, which the Senate passed unanimously amid protests at justices' homes last month. Those protests followed the leak of a draft opinion, published by Politico that indicated the Supreme Court is likely to overturn Roe v. Wade.

"House Democrats have spent weeks blocking the measure that passed here unanimously related to security for Supreme Court justices," McConnell said. "That needs to change, and it needs to change right now… No more fiddling around with this… They need to stop their multi-week blockade against the Supreme court security bill and pass it before the sun sets today."

I have zero sympathy. Zero. I want more chaos for the elite, for the rich, for the capital class. I want them to feel the alienation of their "inferiors". If I have to live in this dystopian hell they can join us in it as well. Kavanaugh is front and center one of the monsters of the GOP.

I'd watch East St. Louis.

There are lots of urban legends about just how dangerous East St. Louis is.

Driving past dead body in the road because it is too dangerous to stop.
Cops pulling people over at night to warn them how dangerous it is and then offering to escort them to the highway.
People refusing to pull over while being chased by cops until they get out of East St. Louis first.

Highest murder rate per capita in the USA, period.

It's also in Illinois, which explicitly left in social or financial anxiety as a legal reason for late term abortions, and is surrounded by states that will likely restrict abortion. So yes, death seems to be in the cards for ol' East St. Louis no matter how you cut it.

the fact that a patient is pregnant is a very, very good idea to record when providing medical care. the vast majority of pregnant mothers don't want the fetus harmed for any reason, and there are a lot of medications/interactions in medicine that are threatening to them even unintentionally. it would also inform which things to look for first/tests to consider when trying to diagnose problems.

the problem is that this isn't private and is being considered legally relevant information elsewhere in poland. i don't know what rights poland provides for its citizens legally, but i would be surprised if arbitrarily yoinking private medical data doesn't violate what they've written down as rights for their citizens. sucks that caring about that isn't in vogue lately.

A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder near Kavanaugh's house.

unless there's more evidence than being presented in these articles, i don't think an attempted murder charge can succeed w/o the guy being more than "near" kavanaugh's house, he'd have to be on his property imo.

otherwise, the weapons were not used in any capacity. while intent was stated...it was stated to authorities, which is contrary to a murder attempt. the guy needs help, but i don't think he gets it by being overcharged. will change my mind if i'm missing relevant facts of case.

The way it is normally done in the UK is you know when it matters if someone is pregnant and when such comes up you tell the patient and then ask.
