My guess is that they couldn't use it in the geographically correct location, Iwo Jima being a tiny Island south of Japan, so they slipped it into the nearest convenient island. To be fair, the tip isn't too far off, give or take a thousand kilometers, and the flag makes a half-decent substitute for the Philippines.

That's... actually pretty neat if it's the case, though I think Dachs' second option is more likely.

They may have been a competent people in the past, but nothing about Greek history over the past 5 centuries begets a description as "competent"
