Altered Maps ΙΓ: To make a map larger than what it maps.

Misattributed, I believe.

Real source of the quote you refer to is Erich Maria Remarque.

^Needs to also show the restored Byzantine Empire, and moreover the independent domains of Pontus (at least prior to the official restoration of the Empire) :yup:

In another life I might be reincarnated as a Byzie or a Greek nationalist. Not in this life though.

I'm still deciding whether I should let the Greeks hang on to Smyrna in this scenario.

^Considering an important bulk of the turkish rebel army at the time was made of kurdish militia promised to have their own country if they win (and predictably slaughtered later on by kemal), i doubt there would be any other conclusion in your timeline ;)

Nice alt history map.

I would advise giving Greece all of Turkey. That is a very sensible and realistic outcome of any alt history timeline.

This is clearly going to happen a bit more

Perhaps a 'countries with Greek alphabet' map might be very interesting. I can think of something if people will give me a day or two.

Just remember to factor in Euboean alphabet too, not just Cyrillic ;)
I said Greek. Not Cyrillic which also includes Glagolitic and Hebrew.

Cyrillic includes Hebrew?

I'm not saying it doesn't (what do I know?). But... ooer!

I thought Hebrew script was as ancient as they come.

The Cyrillic script includes letters from the Glagolitic alphabet of Cyril and Methodius, but many letters are adaptations of Greek or Hebrew characters (for example, ш -"sh"- comes from the Hebrew Shin). Anyway, map will come probably after the Dutch destroy Argentina.
