America: Write Your Own History

Eugene V. Debs

Debs
Due to the fact that he has done well so far... However I would like to see the Stability screen at the mo

Roosevelt We must purge the Socialism and return to our beloved and traditional free market values.

Debs!

And still people believe in the evolution of debs socialism to make the USSA. I'll tell you: He won't! I'm pretty sure he will play with you to remain in this position as long as it suits him, without truly achieving the goals you want. Or if he truly has this in his heart, someone will kill him.

But well, there are no other strong candidates with solid proposals.

Roosevelt - Colonize China? You can only be kidding.

Hughes - Back to capitalism? Just that? Ending the war? Now that the only thing left is India and we may grant then independence?

Follette - Against the UN?

Bryan - End the war again, and want to disconsider the evolution theory from schools?

Watson - Seriously?! This one is a joke

It seems Debs will win anyway, and I'm afraid of his sneaky communism under the sleeve, so I'll Abstain

I don't completely trust Debs to not overthrow the government in a communist revolution, but he seems more moderate and had a relatively successful first term. That being said, I would like to know the extent of Debs' socialist views before I vote for him.

from what i can tell, he seems to be going for a social democracy (like the kind in Sweden IRL)

Historically, speaking social-democracy was founded after fall of communism. If this was history Debs would adopt state property. At least provide us with a communist candidate. A second candidate inside socialist party should appear for sure after Debs' first term proclaiming the success of socialism.

Anyway, Debs. Environmentalism is an acceptable option too.

Everything depends on what RT wants :D . In any case I don't think a reversal from capitalism would be possible as long as the stability is going down. He's going for European style welfarism. btw "Social Democracy" as a term was invented in the late 19th century, i.e. the second international in which the Bolsheviks were. All the Communists at the time were Social Democrats. Debs fits in the historic time perfectly as a Social Democrat. Eventually though I imagine more radical voices would come.

As of now the trend in the game seems to be that old 'baron's of US capitalism are dying out. The 'fat warmongering' American capitalists are becoming as dead as dinosaurs ^_^ . :goodjob:

My vote for Debs

Since we are having a good old debate I thought I share some thoughts so they can get brutally torn down.

What I consider socialism to be is based on my experiences as a Brit and so this may differ from your own opinion but its core values; some nationalized industries (energy, post service, railways and maybe steel?), a well sized welfare state with unemployment and disability benefits, a more progressive tax system although this is now a common feature in most countries. Generally a commitment to social equality and prosperity for the many rather than the few.
I believe the civics and general actions of Debs fit socialism very well.

A shift towards communism would require imo either an outright rejection of socialism which would lead to some socialists becoming more radical and opposed to the existing political system and I presume the influence exerted over the system by big business. OR quite a few years of socialism with the political goalposts moved more to the left and so that Communists and radical socialists become considered more "normal", similar how in the US nearly all the parties are more right wing and the tea party can somehow be considered a serious political force.

If Debs did shift into full on Communist mode then I can see either his assassination, a supreme court/congress opposition or complete rejection at the polls. As previously mentioned by Citis I would expect some radical members of his party start to appear talking about state property if he is successfully reelected.

But after the success of his first term and in the belief that there will be no further drift to the left Eugene V. Debs gets my vote. Would like to see a Teddy presidency though.

Debs

But seriously, Watson's ideas are really for people without a brain original
