Ank09 - DI1 Redux - 3CC AW

If we have the capability to capture five cities in one turn, it will be lights out for the AI. Game over.

Had a really nice turn log going until the landlord needed to check his football pool. Idiot fumble fingered the windows and closed the wrong one....

Anyway, up to 10Bc fighting our way north through Mongol archers and Roman legions, building roads as we go. Captured some more slaves.... Raided some more barbarian camps...Lost two elite horsemen attacking wounded Mongol archers in the open....Setting up to take Paris real soon now.

10AD
Burned Paris at the cost of two elite archers :wallbash:. They were all I had on hand after wounding two veteran swords and a horseman.

Ank09Paris10AD.jpg

Three down!!

Lose another horse trying to kill wounded Mongol archer in the open.

30AD
The northbound army whacks the pesky Mongol archer and Beijing starts the Herioc Epic.

50AD
The troops in the north are heading home, with the exception of a small exploring force.

The MGL in Beijing can be used to rush the Heroic Epic which will free our elites to generate another leader for the Great Library or we could save the MGL for the Library due in 15, your choice.

Shanghai is building horses and Canton is building boats. I know this is a pan' map but it has a long coast line and it would be nice to have something in the water to slow down wandering AI and move our troops up north without having to deal with interlopers on the way. The raging barbs are proving to be a really nice source of cash, as long as we are diligent in finding their camps and collecting the fines. Treasury has grown by 10% even with the small deficit and a warrior upgrade when the boundaries of Canton expanded and pulled in the spices colony.

The only wonders built so far are the Oracle and the Pyramids (destroyed with Paris) so the Colussus could still be ours or the Great Lighthouse.

Great job, Bede.

Let's hope we can destroy the rest before they get to pikes... that would slow us a lot, as we would have to wait until Chivalry to get them destroyed effectively. But that wouldn't be so far either. :)

This game just got a whole lot easier. Four against one is very do-able.

I get the feeling that this continent is a great big donut. Something that might be worth looking into if it is. We fight a holding action in the NW and sweep around from the NE with the major portion of our forces. I think that will put Rome under our swords next. No matter how we fight this though we're going to have a really long supply line.

I like the idea of galleys preventing units landing behind the lines, especially settlers. Galleys will also give us valuable intel on the shape of our land mass.

Another thought. Maybe we should consider making India the focus of our wrath. Rather get them before they get War Elephants.

Cuivienen is skipped, I'm gonna play now.

Edit: I'm not feeling very good... I'm a little ill so I would propably make a lot of :smoke: moves...

I've got it. Hopefully, this isn't turning into a three person game. I should have it turned around by this evening (8-10 hours from now)

Preflight – 30 AD – Gandhi is playing a 4CC, I think he will be the focus of my attention, especially without iron or horses.

Mongols have horses. Rome has iron and horses. Persia has iron.
With science at 70%, we can get literature in 8 turns, with a -34gpt budget.

IBT - Kill a Persian archer.
Shanghai: horse=>sword

1. 50 AD – Find a Persian settler pair NW of the former France.
Kills: Legion, Indian archer (3-0)
Thanks for the go-tos. :nono:

IBT – Lose two swords to legions. Kill a legion and a Roman warrior.

2. 70 AD – Kill Persian spear, collect two slaves.
Kills: Roman archer, 2 Legions,
Lost: 2 swords to legions, (9-4)

IBT – Lose horse to Mongol archer. Kill Mongol archer, kill Legion

3. 90 AD – Kills: Roman spear (12-5)

IBT – Lose a sword to a Persian warrior. Kill a Persian archer. Lose our wine colony and the defending sword to a Persian archer. Kill a Persian archer, see an Immortal, Kill a Mongol archer.
Shanghai: sword=>sword
Canton: Galley=>sword

3. 110 AD – Lost: 2 Horses to Persian Archers (12-7)
We know that Persia is NW of where France used to be.

IBT – Lost a sword to a Mongol Archer.

4. 130 AD – Retreat two horses. (12-8)

IBT – Lost our gems colony.
5. 150 AD – Science drops to 60%, lit due in 2.

IBT – Shanghai: sword=>sword

6. 170 AD – Kill: Immortal, Persian archer
Lost: sword to Persian archer.
Move next to Bangalore.
Science to 50%, lit due next. Get 25g from some barbs. (14-9)

IBT – Immortal retreats a horse.
Canton: sword=>sword

7. 190 AD – Change Shanghai to the Great Library and Sun-Tzu builds it in one season.
@ Bangalore – Hawkeye’s Army defeats the spear and the city autorazes. (15-9)

IBT –
ANK09_-_Library.jpg

8. 210 AD – Kills: Persian Archer, Immortal (17-9)

IBT – Kill a Persian archer. Temujin wants to talk. He was nine cities. And he won’t give all of them to us. Ha!
Lose a sword to a Mongol horse.
We learn Math from the library. Shanghai and Canton are switched over to catapults.
We also learn CoL, Construction and Polytheiesm.

9. 230 AD – Three Mongols are just north of our fur colony. Move a warrior up to block the road. We might be in a bit of trouble. Change Shanghai back to a sword,

Up in Persia, Move a stack next to Sidon, an iron city. (17-10)

IBT – Retreat two Mongol horses and a third kills our warrior.
Canton: cat=>cat

10. 250 AD – Kills: Legion guarding settler, Immortal, Indian spear guarding settler.
Lost: sword,

@ Sidon – Retreat a Horse, sword kills a spear, sword kills spear, raze the city and capture six Persian slaves. Persia has another iron source. (22-12)

After Action – There is a stack of Mongols north of the fur colony. We have a Sod scattered up in Persia and France. I’d gather it and head for either Rome or Persia.

I would press home the attack on India once the forces are healed.

I’d keep one city building cats until we have about 50.

Lux slider needs to to be moved.

Nice :hammer: Bugsy.

I wonder how we could get that kill ratio better... with a 3CC it should be more like 15 - 0. But we don't have catapaults, and they would slow down the best part of riders, the speed. Those Roman legions are tough guys.

And I doubt I will be sick for long, I'm sure I will be able to play when I get the save next time, I'm already feeling better. :)

I see it.

I'll try to get to it tonight.

We really want 50 cats? Seems like a lot of upkeep. I would think 15-20 total would give us a nice task force on each side.....

Maybe that's a bit much, but we need a lot. Cats will pay for themselves quickly in lower casualty rates.

As I have done every other time, I load this up in C3C. *sigh* At least I realized it before I did anything this time.

IHT – Well, everything looks fine on the MM end of it, but our entire NW force seems to be decimated. :(

IT – Lose an elite archer flawlessly to an immortal that comes from nowhere. We also lose a horse that is defending a half dozen workers. On the upside, a sword retreats a horse, and our galley holds off some barbs.

260 ad (1) – Beijing riots, well, I THOUGHT it looked fine… Shanghai sword -> sword. Palace expansion. Sword kills Mongol horse. Army loses about 6 hp getting a Roman settler pair.

IT – Lose a ¾ sword, a 1/5 sword, and a ¼ horse. This is getting bad.

270 ad (2) – Canton cat –> cat. Lose an elite warrior attacking a reg warrior. A vet sword fares much better. Vet sword wins and promotes vs reg spear. Elite archer kills reg archer. Vet sword wins and promotes vs reg spear/settler pair.

IT – A reg legion kills our army. A vet sword defends our furs colony against two horses and promotes. Spear moves onto our horses.

280 ad (3) – I take a chance, and attack the spear with a vet warrior, since it’s the only attacker close enough, and he wins. :) Attack a rl archer with our newly promoted sword and win.

IT – Two archers kill our new elite, also destroying the furs colony.

290 ad (4) – Shanghai riots due to the furs. Pillage some iron that was connected but not in anyone’s boundaries.

300 ad (5) – Canton cat -> cat. Vet and elite swords kill spears and raze Tarsus. Kill a couple Persian archers in our territory. Things are getting a bit sticky on the western road, I may be pillaging it at some point. At least until I can get to gether a force large enough to go bash some skulls.

Enemy city count: Persia 7, Rome 9, Mongols 11, and India 3.

Kinda tired, so this will have ….. to be continued. ;)

We lost the army? That's not too good... ah well, at least we have space for a new one when we get a leader... I suggest we build an army immidiately with the next leader, and if an enemy city is in sight, capture it and build the army there, we'll have it immidiately on the field that way.

Good luck on the rest. Getting tough. Immortals aren't sweet... you gotta get to attack them first or they slice you.

Don't pillage those main roads. Pillage those off shoots. Remember we're going to have Riders coming soon and we'll be able to move our units quickly to the front.

Losing the army hurts, but we can recover, that isn't too bad. Some things to consider

1. Fortifications at key river crossings now that we have construction.
2. Cats at the fortifications.

I think we'll need to establish some fronts until we get Riders, at least in the NW. I think spending all those shields on the Heroic Epic probably slowed us down quite a bit. From now on, let's only build major construction with a leader. We can use leaders for smaller things like cathedrals, universities, in addition to wonders and armies.

I think the NE is still a bit of a Wild West Show. Just heal up the units before moving on to the next city.

I had also considered the fort at the main river crossing outside our borders...

I am moving very slow in the NE, but the west is what really worries me. The Mongols have settled a couple towns south of the romans there, and have been sending a fairly steady stream at us. I'm hoping that's because they have just been sitting on their units until now, and not that they actually have that much production power.

The army hurt, but after the beating I took at the hands of that settler pair, it was unavoidable. I had to heal sometime, and I figured a hill was the best (close) place to do it.

And yes, the HE build has been driving me nuts, though it's down to two turns now.

If you send most of your units to the west, with cats and forts you can fight a holding action while the main offensive hits in the NE.

Sorry guys, got bit by the RL bug tonight.

Didn't even get to watch the Sox, though I saw the final....

Finish it tomorrow for sure.

IT – We get word of a massive uprising near Beijing.

310 ad (6) – Cats go 0 fer 2 against a spear on pillage patrol. Elite sord gets rl killing a spear heading for some workers in the NE. Wandering archer finds the hut with 24 horses a half dozen tiles from both Beijing and Canton. A bit of investigation shows that everyone but Gandhi got Currency this turn. MA, here we come.

IT – The barbs split into a couple small groups, killing our archer in the area, and rl a warrior (both elite). Another barb appears below Shanghai.

320 ad (7) – Kill the pillage spear with the help of the cats. Battle at Ravenna:
Elite sword kills spear, 1/3.
Elite horse kills reg archer outside the city, 1/3.
Elite sword dies to reg spear, 5/2, spear promotes.
Elite sword kills vet spear, 2/2.
Ravenna burns.

Start assembling troops to heal and go after Persia.

IT – We lose an elite archer in the NE to 4 barb horses, also costing us three slaves. Our spear on the ivory colony holds out against a reg archer, 1/3. Barbs are everywhere.

330 ad (8) – Lose a vet sword attacking a ¾ warrior on flatlands, 4/2. Another vet finishes the deed. Try to get our workers out of harm’s way. Turn our sci all the way up to try to get some use out of the gold before the barbs get to the cities.

IT – This is getting messy quick. The barbs seem to be moving in force on our cities. Our rl warrior dies after taking out 2 horses. The Romans move 2 legs, a spear, and an archer to our borders. The Mongols move about four horses in.

340 ad (9) – Bombard a pain in the butt road to the north of Beijing.

IT – All the ai units head for our horses. I spend a couple minutes watching the narns run amok.

350 ad (10) – It must be too late forme, as I let Canton riot. Sorry. I decide to conced the horses for now, rather than the cats. Move all our units onto a hill near Persia to finish healing.

Recap: These barbs are just plain ridiculous. Not a lot that can be done about them right now, though. Actually, the barbs in the NE seem to be turning towards the Romans. If we were to lag a turn or two behind them, we could possibly get an easy city or two. I have not been able to fortify the NW road yet. Right now I was just concerned with Keeping our 3 cities intact. BTW – The Romans will move first, so the horses won’t actually get pillaged this turn.

I feel bad for whoever gets this mess next, but other than the riot, I don't see any serious gaffes.

EDIT: I see that I failed to mention that I started research on Mono, since everyone else will probably go for Feud.

EDIT2: I also forgot to mention that Eng and Rep were traded this turn, so we'll get both next turn.

Hot dog...barbarian boogaloo!

Got it. Play tomorrow.
