Ask a Kiwi/New Zealander?

Is the stereotype that people from Auckland tend not to go to the south island true?

That's one of the stereotypes. The better one is that nothing exists south of the Bombay Hills. Neither is true. Auckland sucks up people from all over the country including the South Island and spits out hordes of retires. The perception instead seems to stem from the fact that Auckland is so damned insular. If you watch 'Auckland news' you often wonder if the rest of the country exists; likewise with the papers; and with the radio. With the rest of the country being subjected to that kind of rubbish it's no wonder the rest of the country sometimes wonders what the hell is going on.

Still need to see more of the South Island ... but we liked Christchurch, before the earthquake. As to North Island, we like Rotorua, but will more than likely go and live in Napier one day.

I love(d) Cambridge until the commuters showed up...
