Ask a Kiwi/New Zealander?

Can you give me links to those quotes?

Just Google Commonwealth Franchise Act 1902 and look for the second reading.

2. What are the attitudes about the immigrants in general, and what are the immigration laws in particular? Do you have to be from UK to be welcomed? Do you see any influx of immigrants, to begin with?

Being from the UK is, on balance, a net detriment. Funny accent, superior manner, horrible popular culture- Hollyoaks, seriously? - and an inability to meaningfully integrate - i.e. support the All Blacks.

What has been the media reaction to the cricket Test series thus far? And, as a bonus, will Chris Martin ever make a Test fifty?

I couldn't care less about cricket.

Do you know any Maoris?

You now know one, me.

Like kiwitt, I don't follow cricket. :p
Do you know any Maoris?
I do, actually.
What is Christchurch looking like these days? Has the city been fully rebuilt now? Is the cathedral back?
I haven't been down since before the first quake (I'm from the capital), and I don't know anyone who's there at the moment, so I can't really do much except confirm what Kiwi is saying. The work's far from finished, but progress has certainly been made.

Yes. I'm out of practice though.

I give you credit for that Hollyoaks jibe..it's..just...mind numbing...

There is one reason one could justify watching it. And even that reason isn't that great.

Funny accent? How can you say that? :crazyeye: UK English is the sexiest to my ear (English being only my third language). I don't follow UKs pop culture, but for me England would always be the country which put words "gentleman" and "lady" in all the other languages worldwide. I know, I know things are 180 degrees now, but still...

Riiiiiiiiiiight. In Hollywood films, maybe. In reality, the Brits should just admit that they no longer speak English but Chavic.

Not, really. Gentleman (gentilz hom) is of French origin and Lady (hlæfdige) German.

Britain is falling; I'm cheering.

Am I right in thinking the migrant mix in New Zealand is similar to Australia but with proportionally more islanders?

Is the stereotype that people from Auckland tend not to go to the south island true?

I know that it can't be fully true because my sea kayaking instructor/team leader guy was from Auckland.. and I went sea kayaking in Abel Tasman nat. park, which is on the south island. *He* claimed that he was one of the few who venture down.. but.. he was also a really funny guy who looked like jermaine from flight of the conchords.. and sounded a bit like bret. So I didn't exactly trust everything that he said..

So yeah.. what's up with that?

Its cheaper to fly to Oz sometimes than to the South Island. Or for a couple hundred more you get to the Pacific.

While it is beautiful and all that ... we just take it for granted and think "We can go there any time we like, lets go to Oz of the Pacific Islands instead".

I flew from Auckland to Queenstown for $89NZ.. just one way though.

It turned out being a great way to start my trip; I saw everything from the plane, backwards :goodjob: And the landing at Queenstown was spectacular.. You basically drop into a valley a couple minutes before landing and see awesome mountains on both sides of the plane until you land.

Have you been on the south island? Which part's your favourite? And which part of the north island is your favourite?

Still need to see more of the South Island ... but we liked Christchurch, before the earthquake. As to North Island, we like Rotorua, but will more than likely go and live in Napier one day.

Whats the most popular sport of New Zealand? Rugby, Cricket or others? What sport do you/ people around you like to play?

Rugby and Soccer are up near the top, as well as netball and Cricket.

I prefer to cycle or walk when I can.

Which are top 2 of the following? By participation and viewing?

*I dont expect you to know any accurate figures or anything of that like but which in you experience are top 2.

Rugby, League, Cricket and Netball in that order by viewing.

Soccer, Rugby Netball (girls) in playing

Rugby union is the most popular by far, viewing-wise. Soccer is getting more popular since the All Whites' *success* in the Fifa World Cup last year.

I play field hockey myself, and we have pretty decent national teams, but it's not exactly popular as a sport.

I've been to the SI a lot. I have to say Golden Bay and Nelson are pretty amazing, and the Abel Tasman is also far from overrated.

North Island, Taupo wins by a mile.
