It's not like I don't expect this. His Imperial Majesty basically showed the finger to the west world so no wonder you hate him.:lol:

Pretty fun Iran was getting better than UK and USA together at that time, we had stronger army than Israel and better economy than lots of European countries.

I was talking about any king, bloh, I for one liked the shah more than the ayatollah's. (Have you seen pics of Iranian women in the '60s and '70s? just...gorgeous :goodjob: )

Israel didn't have nukes back in the 70s. Neither did Kingdom of Iran.

Why is the country called Iran and not Persia? Persia sounds cooler...

Because Persia comes from the time of Jahiliyyah, the time of ignorance before Islam that Muslims like to pretend doesn't exist. Ironic, really, because they still do things like circumcizing women and celebrating Nowruz, both of which come from that terrible time before AH 1.

Cheezy the Wiz
Jaheliyyh is about Arabia before Islam not Iran
from anceint time people of iran called themselves Irani and thier country Iran
Iran means where Arians live and anceint iranians Arian
Arabs called country of Iran "Iraq" for places that invaders arabs control and live they call "Iraq Arab" today called Iraq country that US attack and so
for about half of today Iran they called "Iraq Ajam" for the other half of Iran plus today Afghanistan they called "Khorasan"
Persia or in Iranian language Pars is a province of iran (a region above Persian gulf) became after Arabs Fars
word persia reached westerns by greece historians refer to this province and in anceint document Iranians always called themselves Irani but westerns called persia

that's an dangerous attitude, around here it's a sign of common sense to mock the king.

You mean the Shah? No, in America it's ANY king. There are some people here who still mock King George III "the Insane", and anyone else who takes the name "King". (Only Elvis Presley gets to call himself "The King", but that's a different kind of king  . Everyone else is a pretender and deserves no respect. ;) ) And they deserve a good mocking if they lead a country, especially if they lead a country.

I doubt many Americans even care about whether the Shah was a hero or coward. People in general are both hero and coward, and a King is just a normal man with a fancy title.

Read the Declaration of Independence for an idea of where classic American "King-bashing" comes from.

Most Americans have put away this negative attitude towards any and all kings, but remember that it's part of where we come from.

Uhm. stolen Rutters, I'm not from the USA, I'm Belgian (preferably Flemish ;) ) and we live under a monarchy, but the king here is just an figurehead, wasting his days around the meditterean and his sons have just one job: breeding. So yeah, it's a sign of common sense to mock him. In fact, I'm perhaps one of the few real "republicans" (and so the circle closes back to the USA ;) ) on this forum.

and Bloh, most poeple don't know here about any shah, so there isn't any reason to "love" and "hate". :p

Doh! I forget over half the posters here are from another country. "Phillippe" sounds so American! (Well, not really.) ;) Forget what I said then. -slinks away-

No problem! :)

We all know how hard it is for an American to know there is an outside world ;)

and you have proven to be one. Phillippe is always written like that by you yankees!

Have a nice day! :)

I didn't even notice! Phillip with two 'L's is our spelling.

Back to topic, now I'm curious. Are Iranians taught that people like Kings somehow automatically deserve more respect than any ordinary citizen without the title, or is this respect an "elder" thing?

I grew up being taught to respect my elders, and to respect people because they ARE people and citizens, but I was never taught to give extra respect to someone with a so-called title like "king" or "lord". We even made jokes about people with that kind of hubris, people who believed they were somehow above the law.

Now I don't claim such people don't exist here (the former leaders of Enron come to mind as examples of people who thought they were better than everyone else), but I choose to respect them as anyone else, not give any special treatment above and beyond what I would have anyway, just because they demand it.

It is widely believed that the Vela Incident in 1979 was a South African nuclear test, which was conducted in secret with Israeli technical expertise... so I can say they would have had to have had them since at least the 70s.

babelfish is a dead language!!!!
i think that i cant convey my meaning by speaking english.
