I've been taught to pronounce jiim as anything from "g" to "j" to "zh," depending on the word (Egyptians pronounce it as "g"). Perhaps it is a simple blurring of sounds. Gulf Arabs will say some words with kaaf ( ﻙ ) as if it had the Persian che ( ﭺ ) instead. Example: dog in Arabic is كلب, pronounced "kalb" correctly, but Gulf Arabs will say "chalb" as if it were written چلب.

jim? It has like four different values in arabic and depends on the dialect, but it seems that it's either pronounced by people to be dʒ or ʒ, not both. Persian has both sounds as different phonemes.

Yes, but Standard Arabic changes it as well.

I would say university ( جامعة ) with a hard "j" sound, but kind (جميل ) with a softer "zh" sound. T'was how I was taught.

EDIT: On that note, I wonder how many Arabic loan words the Persian language has. I'm sure its a great many.

If it does, it's probably not a phonemic distinction. That is, it's pronounced differently in different environments, but they are not considered different sounds. In english, a good example would be "k" in "kit" and "skit" - the k is pronounced differently, but they are simply different allophones of the same phoneme.
