This isnt a hate crime, in fact they should ditch classifying crimes based on that criteria, its more of a prank then anything.

Not necessarily. Blowing things, is not always hate-crime and the place of the crime may be (though it is unlikely) incidental.

Its not a hate crime because its against the religion its a hate crime because its against a practitioner of the religion. So actually the bacon is not a hate crime since islam can't have a crime committed against it. At the most you can get vandalism or littering.

Welcome to the United States where overreaction is king!Just about laughed my arse off when I heard this on the news. Apparently some bonehead left a copy of the Koran on the front steps of a Mosque with a pair of bacon strips placed inside. CAIR, the Council on American Islamic relations, is apparently "horrified" by the incident, and now the FBI is now investigating the prank as a hatecrime.
Funny how when explosives go off outside a jewish synagogue, such as what happened in Canada last week, the police just classify it as mischief, but when someone leaves a Koran outside of a Mosque, full of bacony goodness to boot, it is a hate crime.
One just has to shake their head when reading news like this.

The whole Idea of a hate crime is silly, a crime is a crime. We don't need thought police going around trying to put people in jail for what they were thinking, we need real police to put people in jail for doing real crimes.

Hate crime is a term founded on positive segregation, something which is simply the ever-present companion of negative segregation. Hate crime is a term which should be made defunct.
As for the happnings themselves: Jeez, how horrible! Next they'll have to complain every time they smell neighbours frying bacon and have them arrested for attempted murder.
