The majority of people I know - whether friends, internet buddies who play civs, or even civ youtubers - play in this way.

Without yields turned on it's sincerely hard to plan out districts, UIs, wonders, etc. And a good yield porn will make a lot of players satisfied.

I like to show yields but not grid so to each his own, right? Though I admit I at times turn it all off just to enjoy the view for a couple of turns.
