Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

Damn it's gonna be midnight by the time they reveal the theme here. American times are rough for me. Thought it would fall on 18:00 like reveals. I assume it's an evening time in America for the event?

EDIT: Even worse, 1:30 in the morning :(
Yep. It's 6 hours from now, which will be evening in the US

And just as to add on, that's only the starting point. The Game Awards go on for 3 and a half hours, and you cannot be sure if you are going to only have to wait for 30 minutes or over 2 hours.

Better to just go to bed and wake up to some excellent music.

Second this. The Game Awards are dreadfully structured and boring. If all you're watching it for is the theme, don’t bother.

Usually, they will release the video on YouTube and announce it on every social media account they have, the moment it happens, when something like this is going on. You don't actually have to watch the show for it, unless you really want to see it performed live.

This year's game shows have all been dreadful.

I love the Game Awards, especially since the tragic demise of E3, and would be watching it irrespective of any Civ VII reveals. That said, if all they reveal is the theme music, and don’t show off at least some abilities or uniques from Franklin or America or anything that we don’t know about in terms of gameplay, I’ll definitely be deeply disappointed.

Being on stage at the Game Awards sets a certain level of expectations, like Christmas morning. No one is disappointed if they don’t get any presents on December 23rd. But if December 25th comes around, even if you’re told that Santa Claus is bringing you socks, if you unwrap your presents and that’s all he got you, disappointment is going to be inevitable.

I’m hoping that the Theme Song is just the wrapping paper and not the “present” itself

A typical First Look is a very awkward format to bring to TGA, where reveals and trailers are much more cinematic, and the goal is to get people hooked, including the audience that wouldn’t normally care as much about your game.

I can expect them to maaaybe throw in some gameplay footage with Franklin plus a tease of the endgame victory, but wouldn’t expect any dedicated showcase of uniques. Which is not to say that CivFanatics won’t dissect every frame and discover something juicy anyway.

And another blurb that indicates the mystery leader could have been revealed prior to the Modern Age

I don’t see any clear indication of this in the blurb. I interpreted “saved as a surprise” as them giving us one more FL than usual during the stream.

But if your interpretation is correct, then perhaps Himiko?

When something is saved, it could have been used/expended/spent but was held in reserve.

Any second leader in one week is a surprise, but one that has been saved for this purpose could have been revealed before this.

Could be my reading comprehension quirks, but I’m still skeptical haha. To me that wording seems more like a juxtaposition to Ben Franklin, who’s the worst kept secret at this point - still no official FL, but we all know he’s in.

So two first looks next week to compensate none this week (mostly likely cause there was the game award event this week).

I'm curious if the game will start with America or if they will do like last time and start at the end of exploration and then pick america.

If it's the latter, it'll be quick fun to see Normandy have no transition to Britain

I'm guessing Genghis Khan as the surprise, who will be present leading Qing or Russia during the game.

They don't necessarily have to have either of those civs in the livestream, but Confucius would probably lead Qing and we've seen an indication that Catherine the Great is in the game and would be the historic choice for Russia.

I second the Genghis Khan prediction, considering he’s another “big name.” Based on that comment about how egregious it was too exclude him from the base game, it seems sure to me.

I just feel like if Genghis gets a First Look, (which is just vibes on my part, to be fair) he will also be present in the game. If he's present in the game, it makes sense for him to be leading a civ that branches off from Mongolia. Catherine won't have been revealed yet, so Confucius can be leading Ming and he can be leading Mongolia pre-transition, and then they can switch to Qing and Russia on transition.

At the same time, it feels strange to save Genghis until now instead of revealing him along with Mongolia - they could, but I don’t get the thought process. Saving someone more disconnected like Ibn Battuta would make more sense.

I mean I really want to se Genghis Khan in, but it does seem like a weird timing? honestly no idea, just happy to see how the modern era works.
