Civ4 Beyond the Sword Patch v3.17 is out

Why the hell they took the Unreveal tile from WB? Another step for easier scenario making with WB, I presume......

Reread the changelog:
Worldbuilder no longer allows you to unreveal visible plots
You cannot unreveal plots that units placed can currently see.
This makes it easier to use WB, not harder.

well, that my interpretation... did you open it and see otherwise? I haven't had a chance, I'm hoping I'm right.
 
First, I already knew of the change when I wrote that... and like I said I was ranting ;)

Now you can only reveal all the tiles and unreveal all the tiles.... both the reveal and unreveal tile buttons are gone. There is no need to say that this makes the life of casual scenario makers far more dificult ( like I already said, I know how to edit a WB save without WB, but a lot of people don't )


P.S You can reveal tiles that your units can't see ATM ( grey fog of war ) and you can unreveal tiles that you suposedely could see ( black start ;) ).... It was always like that.

In that case I misinterpreted what it meant. You can indeed still unreveal plots that aren't visible.
 
When building a large stack of units, the small display of units no longer wraps to multiple rows like it did in BTS in the past. It's back to Vanilla civ style - arrows appearing on the right side for cycling through the units in the stack.

also, I installed BUG 2.30 and I'm still have the text variable display problem. I'll download and install the fixed .xml file someone posted earlier.

Take it to the bug reports forum. This is concerning.

It is not needed. Go to my games costumassets folder and search for CIV4GameText_BTS.xml file ( it is in Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets\XML\Text ) and delete it. if the game still shows the tags , install the fixed file.

Does that mean you can't unreveal/reveal individual tiles, because that5 would be terrible for me. The maps I've made I've done by taking a map from another game and drawing a grid over it. Then I'd use revealed or unrevealed tiles to create a grid in the worldbuilder. If I can't do that then I can't make anymore maps that way.

Sure it can be done, but this isn't the Matrix where everyone can stare at the code and see exactly what the Matrix would show them.
Who wants to create a horizontal line of viability by typing "TeamReveal=6", and then scrolling down a dozen pages to find the adjacent tile and typing "TeamReveal=6," again, when you could just draw that line.

Exactly what I meant..... Like I said ,I can do it, but most of people can't. and those people are going to feel really handicapped

This is because BUG added Plot List Enhancements which (currently, but that will change soon) defaults to the old-style view. PLE has four views, and you can switch between them using the icons above the action icons at the bottom of the screen.

To fix this, when you start your game, click on the second icon from the left (looks like a 3x3 grid of dots). I'm working on adding a setting so you can set the default, but I've been swamped IRL.

For the text issues, follow the steps from r_rolo1 in this post. If that doesn't do it, I would rename your CustomAssets folder and reinstall BUG.
 
I've been dling this for like 120 minutes. How long will it take? Also, I was dling it with in game patch finder, and I closed the game during that. When I started again it said installation error, but then it started dling. Will that mess it all up? Is there a way to see my dl progress with patch finder?

Same here, not quite 120 though. What on earth is going on?

My advice is for you to download the patch from the download section in here... you should be the 50th person to complain about auto update lagging today :(

It should not cause any problems. The auto-updater first downloads the patch (which is lagging) and then installs it, but it's clear when it starts the second part. Since the patching process hasn't started, your installation hasn't been modified yet.

In other words, it's safe to cancel the download and get the patch another way.
 
I don't know, last time I downloaded a BtS patch and installed manually it didnt work right. Probably a conflict with a Warlords patch or something, but I'm already 2 hours into it. If I don't get a status bar does that mean its not working?

Edit: I checked my network connections, and I'm not getting any packets with civ4 running.

Urg. Now I'll either have to place units to create the viability grid I want, roll back to the last version every time I go a-mapping, make maps in warlords, or think of some other way to mark the map.

Have you actually tried it in 3.17? Revealing and unrevealing tiles works just fine for me, the only thing that's different is that squares you have current visibility (ie: can be seen by a unit or city, not tiles that have been revealed but are not currently visable) can't be unrevealed. Before 3.17 you could unreveal a tile a unit was standing on, and the tile would be in the fog of war. Hardly a good thing.
 
Okay, let's debunk the WB reveal thing right now. This is very simple by looking at the code.

Here's the 3.17 version of CvWorldBuilderScreen.py. The two bold lines were added.

If we are revealing plots or the plot cannot be seen by a unit​

It is clear from this code that the only change you should see is that you can no longer unreveal a tile which a unit can currently see. This makes perfect sense.

If you are seeing different behavior, your installation is corrupt. Clear your cache, unload mods, remove CustomAssets, or reinstall Civ4 and just the 3.17 patch (it's includes all previous patches).

@Minor Annoyance: You should be able to continue using your mapping technique without any trouble in 3.17.
