[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

I must say I'm quite excited with the possibilities in this announcement and I like the idea of the DLCs every other month to spread things out. I'm sure some people wanted Civ 7 already but I'd want to do more with Civ 6 while we have it (and I'm sure some people will be wondering about Civ 8 during Civ 7). It is a shame to hear that they aren't releasing the source code yet though unless they're saving it as a surprise for later.

It's great to know that the Maya and Ethiopia are coming close, those 2 were the most necessary in my opinion! I wasn't expecting Gran Colombia (and I probably would've preferred the Muisca) but they're a strong choice for a new civ, there's no denying its influence. Most of us have a good idea of what Simon Bolivar looks like but what should we expect from the appearance of a Mayan king or queen apart from a decent amount of jade and feathers? Do you think the staff would be able to alter any visual appearances or update them at a later time if enough people brought it up? Whenever I see Shaka I sometimes can't help but wonder if I had brought up the color of the leopard skin enough that it would be changed.

Regardless, I'll be looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

I wish they could explain it a little better. If I had to guess they don’t actively hate us; they may well have gotten entangled in some licensing issues or something where they can only release parts of the code, and then that might be too much work to go through (especially if you need to involve legal advisors on what falls in what category.)

It's simpler than you think. They just want to make more money - fast buck. That is all.

On the content that does not even exist yet :D Almost like buying a pig in a poke

I am hoping for a Italy Civ based off of the Medieval/Renaissance city states, so my thought process was that the Vatican City would possibly be a city on their list. But you could be right, but I'm less optimistic now.
In the medieval/renaissance period Vatican City was just part of Rome though right? Not a city-state as such. So I don't think it means no Italy. I would never have expected to see it on any Civ's city list - either it's an independent city state or nothing. So don't lose hope (yet).

If we see Genoa, Florence, Venice, Milan, that's bad news, though. Especially Venice as that obviously means no Serene Republic either.

Sadly, I think this decision has 2K/Take 2 Interactive's fingerprints all over it. Was wondering how long it would be before they yanked Firaxis' chain.
I'm sure they were planning to release it a some point, else I hope they would have had the respect to tell us that from the start not in the 4th year of development.

And they really do care about modding, they've put a lot of work before release in the existing framework.

So I suppose that yes, it's a decision that was taken for them, not their choice.

Same result anyway, civ4 was the golden age of modding with Firaxis.

It says it is exclusive to the complete pass. So in my interpretation that means if you buy the pass in March 2021 you'd still get this bonus. It's more like "you buy a three course menu, get this stuff extra. You buy a la carte? You don't get it."

Except you don't know what all the courses are, and you have to wait a year to get all of them. And you slice part of one course to dangle it as a marketing ploy to make people buy the whole thing due to fomo. I get it, I don't have to buy anything I don't want to, but it doesn't make it less of a scummy move.

To me all of this just seems like a worse deal than an expansion. You pay the same, or even more in the case of Rise and Fall, and you get less, stretched over a year.
It only makes sense if there are 5 people left working on Civ VI and everyone else's moved to Civ VII.

To be fair to Firaxis, most of those decisions are probably made by 2K, not by them, so I don't want to be too harsh on them. I just wish they would be more consistent with fixing and balancing the game, as many more issues still remain. Luckily I've been able to use mods to get a decent UI experience, but it looks like the same will not happen with the AI.

Vatican City is confirmed as a new City-State from the screenshots thread. Well I guess that probably means no united Italy.

I guess here are my remaining predictions which I know are kind of safe picks:
3rd pack- Byzantines+Assyria/Babylon +Mediterranean World Map and TSL
4th pack-Portugal
5th pack- Vietnam+Kublai Khan +Health District and buildings with plague mechanics
6th pack- Navajo/Iroquois/Tlinglit+Americas Map and Americas TSL
Vatican city has never been part of italy, it doesn't exclude anything, if we see cities like florence or venice then we can get disappointed, but for now there's still hope

Might be a strange approach for you. But i actually try to figure out what I do not sese here. No reason to yell at me

No you're not. Plenty of people have made reasonable complaints. You just dismissed it as horse armor and called it leader skins despite it being, at the very least, eight full new civs plus nine leaders plus a bunch of new systems which can be toggled on/off.

@Gedemon Did they confirm they will definitely not release it? All I saw was "we have no plans at this time" which is not the same thing. I myself have used that line when I have to do PR speak, because it is literally true. There are, currently, no plans, either way. It's "this is literally all the info I have, but I don't want to leave you with nothing, so I'm telling you exactly what is going on. The answer is neither yes, no, or secret, it is 'there is no answer to your question'".

Everyone has to decide for themselves and will have their own views, of course. But this actually looks like pretty good value to me. It’s not just the top line content, but also the ongoing support, and the fact any top line content will be “better” precisely because they’ve had more time to work on things.

FXS have had a good track record producing good stuff for this game. I’m not super confident the DLC will cover all the mechanics I’d like to see, but I am confident whatever comes will be pretty good.

I’m disappointed there’s still no DLL. Not because it’s something I’d ever use, but because it constrains the Mods we might get from people like you.

I wouldn’t give up hope the DLL will ever get released. But there’s certainly reason to be concerned it won’t get released and it’s certainly not getting released any time soon.

Any predictions when we could see the first teaser for new civs?

Well I'm staying up late tonight if that is any guide

Personally I don't use mods, so their decision not to release the DLL source code doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game, but it is poorly done nonetheless.

I'm hoping that it's because they haven't yet ruled out another year-long pass after this one, and are waiting to see how this does. At the same time though... how many more Civs are we realistically going to get?

I suspect the answer will become clearer once we know which of the remaining 'big-hitter' returning Civs that have been held back until now are in the New Frontier Pass. If for some reason not all of Byzantium, Babylon and Portugal are in, then we could possibly see more.

Any predictions when we could see the first teaser for new civs?

I'm guessing today at 4PM UK time, which was when the announcement dropped yesterday.

I really do hope those new game modes provide some interesting ways to play, more than just mere curio that you try once and then forget. We know these aren't new game systems but maybe something versatile enough to be replayable many times.

Well, that's your opinion. I will only add one thing. Why don't they have to do something people want? It's an anti-consumer kind of approach. OK. Consumers don't have to buy it, then. And everything will fall apart. The consumers are the King, not some developers. Also, I would not say the AI is of good "quality" since 2016. Lastly, the game has not been developed for many months now. Not even a single patch? No winter patch. And now they want you to pay for the content that is not done yet. No communication with the community at all etc. Is this how you develop a game?
Sorry all, I must say it in our language. Ja pierdole...
Do you know what is your problem? Saying what "people" want you think what you want. Why do you think consumers won't buy it? Because you don't like it? OK than.
The consumer is the king. You won't buy it you won't play it. It is called freedom of choice.
Ah, I know. Someone who will buy it is an idiot who gives money to anti-consumer corporations instead of boycotting it.

Isn’t there a pack with one additional civ, but two leaders? I can see that being Italy with a Venetian and a Florentine leader.

I’m wondering how much work the alternative skins were for Teddy and Catherine.

and i’m wondering whether the map will not be too full with the apocalypse mode on, i guess i need to start harvesting more...

Well, going to buy it anyways, even i‘m unlikely to finish a game here...

Not sure if someone mentioned it, but with Vatican city being added... could it replace one of the religious city states?

Current Religious CS:

- La Venta (Olmecs)
- Armagh (Irish)
- Kandy (Sri Lankan)
- Nazca (Nazca culture)
- Jerusalem (Hebrew)
- Yerevan (Armenia)

Do we KNOW whether VC is enterly new or not? Because if not, we might have Celts, Hebrews or Armenians on our hands.

Would love to see Hebrews as they're one of the most influenting civs in history, it's weird to see them not being represented.

We know there is 1 civ and 2 leaders in the pack, but the leader could be for an already-existing civ. In fact, I would say it is almost certain, because they want people to be interested in purchasing that particular DLC even if they are not interested in the civ...
