[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

I'm excited that there is a Vietnamese Great General in the game, which has one of the best Bonus Abilities of all Great Generals to boot (permanently reducing war weariness by 25%)!

I'm also glad that Trung Trac complements other representations of Vietnam in Civ 6, such as Hạ Long Bay Natural Wonder and Thăng Long City State (in Path to Nivarna scenario only). Side note but Hạ Long means "descending dragon", while Thăng Long means "ascending dragon", so those things have already complemented each other as well.

Coincidentally I have predicted partly what representation of Vietnamese in the game would turn out to be like:

Maybe it's already too late to suggest Vietnamese specifications, but regardless:

+ Leader bonus: "People's War" - effects from war weariness reduced by 50% (or accumulating 50% less war weariness), +50% Production toward support units.
...

I wonder if there would be Vietnamese great people among the 24 new ones in the upcoming Babylon pack.

I know, but I'd say that's a very minor change to do especially that Manila's very far below Spain's city list.

Compare that to Manila being one of the city-states where they would have to conceptualize another replacement if the Philippines were to be a new civ.
Granada was already taken off and made into a city-state and who knows if they want to take another away.

Besides with new info coming out in the game files it looks like it will be Vietnam in January still.

Are there new datamined files pointing to vietnam?
Not to my knowledge, but more information has surfaced that sounds related to the alternate economy mode that was referenced in the same file as Kublai and Vietnam.

That's what I was referring to which probably links the two together.

6th DLC's code is "PeachNPoppy", it's a company.
"Peach & Poppy Co. has snail mail kits to help inspire and spark creativity in your letters. Grab a snail mail kit and get started!"

A fancy stationary store? Huh.

Edit: There's also a children's clothing website.

And a New Zealand seller of children's clothing. And a Canadian makeup artist. And a home decor boutique. :p

Le Loi is a fine option, too, he even has the same last name as me :) The thing about Le Loi is he is known for winning a defensive war against the Ming dynasty, which is kinda like what Tran Nhan Tong is known for the most (winning a defensive war against the mongols in the 2nd and 3rd invasion attempt), so they both fill the same box. Again I think Tran Nhan Tong is (slightly) more likely because of the theming with Kublai, and we know Civ 6 has been going in that direction with Tomyris and Cyrus.

Le Thanh Tong because maybe beside conquest, he can excel at infrastructure and government as well, so he fills a different box.
And Ho Chi Minh because he is a communist lol, so that is like a whooooole different box.

And maybe because I'm biased, but I don't think Vietnam is out or is a red herring, considering NFP has been just a fan service so far with its civ choices. Baiting with such a popular request is just cruel.

BTW, considering Vietnam is most likely not gonna be led by a woman if it is in, that leaves us with the March pack's female leader, and a possibility for a surprise Maria I afterward to make it 3 female :)

Le Loi didn't win a defensive war though. Le Loi initiated an uprising which ultimately won independence for Vietnam, because at the time Vietnam was already annexed by China's Ming Dynasty. Moreover the Ming Dynasty at the the time was very powerful and had a strong grip on the newly annexed Vietnam (named Dai Ngu before the annexation), many Vietnamese uprisings before Le Loi were crushed, and Le Loi's force itself had to struggle for several years just for survival.

Compared to Vietnamese Tran Dynasty's resistances against Mongol/Yuan Dynasty invasions, Le Loi's uprising was in a much more disadvantageous condition. Moreover compared to Tran Dynasty's kings, Le Loi was also an excellent military leader himself who directly led his troops.

So yeah, Le Loi was easily among the most extraordinary leaders of Vietnam. After all the Ming Dynasty was able to take over China from Yuan Dynasty.

Oops, you're right, I forgot about the shortlived Ho Dynasty. Still, I'm glad that Trung Trac is out of the way and if Vietnam makes it, which is still very likely, it will be led by someone who is more prominent. AND I'm actually very surprised that the devs decide to keep all the Vietnamese diacritics in Vietnamese names! I thought the easier choice was to anglicize these names and remove all of those diacritics.

im behind but it thankfully appears that neither trung sister will be vietnam’s leader

babylon also got renamed to an elamite city, so it appears that elam is now on firaxis’s radar which is awesome

Le Loi, Ho Chi Minh or Ngo Quyen would be my vietnam choice

So so far the packs have been geographic: and since we're over halfway through I wouldn't expect that trend to change:

DLC 1 Central/South America: Maya and Gran Colombia
DLC 2 Africa: Ethiopia
DLC 3 Europe: Byzantium and Gauls
DLC 4 West Asia: Babylon
DLC 5 East Asia: Vietnam and Kublai (?)
DLC 6 ???

So I'd assume either North America or Oceania for the last remaining civ. RIP Portugal?

Just going by City-State ascendancy, I would suspect to see for Civ 7
I personally don't think there's anything to read into there. Florence, Milan, Bologna have all been City-States, and Italy is highly requested, and we still don't have an Italy. Zanzibar has been a City-State in both games, and Kilwa Kisiwani is a Wonder, but we don't have a Swahili Civilization either. Similarly I don't think that the them having added Muscat AND Zanzibar in Civ 6 indicates we should be expecting the Omani Empire as a civ in the next installment.

We don't even know how much Civ 7 they have planned out yet, or if planning has even started.

Do the other DLC codes actually hint at the civs in the pack? I always felt it was rather.... random.

I can't find sources to what my portugese friends told me so huge grain of salt but Portugal production of peach was a thing for a while. Now it's much more diverse.

It’s a very strange code. But I would’ve assumed it was related more to DLC 5, since peaches come from near Kunlun & west China, while poppies create opïum I would associate with the Silk Road.

It could be a double meaning code, talking about the Silk Road & companies
