[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

I guess you can pay individually as they come out but it seems the total package price is $59.99.
I think you get more paying upfront in the end.
It's $39.99.
The $59.99 showing at the bottom is marketing purposes for people to buy the Base Game.
I think they said you will save about 2$ if you buy upfront plus you get the exclusive new Teddy Roosevelt and Catherine de Medici persona packs that give them new appearances, abilities and agendas.

how possible do people think the ainu might be? it would be a different type of indigenous people than they’ve featured in the past and i’d quite like to see them given their storied past (direct descendants of the Jomon people)

I’d hope that they could be the wildcard asian civ after vietnam/philippines and babylon/assyria

Name an Ainu leader of significance whose name is not Japanified (or outright in Japanese), and not portrayed in history as a "barbarian chieftain rightfully civilized by the Yamato people." THAT'S the problem...

Shakushain makes sense: there’s probably just enough information about him to make an ability and agenda, and we know enough of the culture itself for everything else, like the unit, civ ability and building

also in regards to the language, its ongoing revival means that there’s probably enough speakers that the dev team could find one

I must have the wrong link as I read $59.99.
Perhaps that is if you don't have the game already?
Glad I didn't pay yet as 40 dollars sounds better.
I expect someone will have a discount soon.
The price isn't on steam yet it seems. Probably because it won't be available for purchase until next Thursday when the first DLC pack launches.

If we were getting another Native American civ in this pass and it was new to the series (so not Sioux, Iroquois or Shoshone), who would you most want to see? And who do you think would be most likely, if not the same?

Salish, Haida, Chinook

I would like to see one of the following
Navajo
Apache
Comanche
Shawnee
Tlingit

I really have no idea how likely any of them are. That depends on the cooperation of the tribal communities.

Unpopular prediction: the leader of Ethiopia will be Makeda (Queen of Sheba) instead of Haile Selassie. :D
I could see it. Wouldn’t that make Ethiopia jewish too?

Preference: Tlingit, Powhatan, Choctaw, Nuu-Chah-Nulth/Makah, Nez Perce, Navajo, Natchez, in that order. I don't think we'll see two, but Choctaw/Pushmataha and Shawnee/Tecumseh would make a fun double pack, since they were contemporaries and rivals. I think Iroquois are probably the most likely. Here's hoping for Joseph Brant instead of Hiawatha this time.

Nez Perce and Tlingit over all the others imo. Cascadia represent!

TBH half the reason I want the Nez Perce is because their language is so cool (but Chief Joseph is cool, too). :D (Cascadia's a beautiful part of the country.)

Navajo- It's hard to say if they are the most likely but they do fill a geographical gap and are a noticeable tribe in the U.S. in terms of population and pop culture (Codewalkers, Navajo rugs etc).
I'd say the Haida or Tlinglit have a chance too and I wouldn't mind one of them either. The only reason for that is because it seems that the Haida were considered for R&F due to them being found in the game files for the first expansion. The Pacific Northwest region is also intriguing at least to many members here and obviously the devs have noticed.

Nowhere inherently the whole civ becoming Jewish anymore than if you had Switzerland under Ruth Dreifuss. Even the Khazar Khaganate was believed to be multi-confessional in it's great population majority, and only the ruling class, after a certain point, being Jewish.

The Cree have the Haida Raven as their symbol, have a PNW city art style, and very PNW colors. I think the Cree were intended to be Haida and changed relatively late in development--which to me implies Firaxis ran into some kind of trouble implementing the Haida. I'm skeptical we'll see the Haida for that reason, as much as I want either the Tlingit or the Haida. :(

Salish, and sometimes even Haida, are also known to use the salmon symbol. It's probably a secondary symbol, but it has a fair degree of ubiquity.

I see a mishmash of a bunch of different Native American city art for them so I couldn't tell. Cahokia shares it too so I assume whatever new Native American Civ that comes will have the same city art.
They did run into trouble but at least they are on the radar. Tlingit might still have a chance.
