Classical Music: Which Era/Composer do you prefer?

Oh yea, and i forgot to say that although Vivaldi is the best overall, the best classical(sorta) song is Karl Orff's Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi.

I was just listening to Strauss' Emperor's Waltz, wondering how it would sound while moving my modern armors into Hittite territory.

I love Bach. Most of the people hate it. I know. They have the impression that it has to be played like a metronome, with no soul and variations. Bach wasn't a living dead, he had 20 children, why would we play it like a funeral music?

Paganini, Mertz, Beethoven, Chopin and Mauro Giuliani (probably few here heard about him) are some of my favorites too.

I also love the late Romantic period. I love Albeniz or Rodrigo.

Beethoven and Mozart. I could happily list a lot of lesser composers whose work I also love, but there are good reasons Mozart and Beethoven are so well known, and the main reason is their music is so overwhelmingly good.

As a side note, apart from the masterful Pathetique, I have a real problem with Tchaikovsky. Doesn't he ever know how to finish his music ? The otherwise good 5th Symphony is a good example, where he can't decide how to finish, so he just appends one ending after another. This tendency becomes ridiculous with the Capriccio Italien, where it feels like almost half of the music is just various attempts at ending the piece.

Very interesting.
I also have a knack for contemperory music. Especially Schoenberg's Pierrot is a proof how vividly atonal music can reflect poetry.
Yet the Sacre is also divine- this is just like music depicting a human sacrifice must be like.
And finally Mahler's Lied von der Erde, his other symphonies, as well as Bruckner's last one are also great. This can be also said about sacral/vocal music such as the different Requiems.

I'm a pleb when it comes to classical music, but I do think,Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue is one of the finest modern pieces I've ever heard along with Ravels Bolero, if that's modern?

I have a penchant for Bach, that's the punk of the classics, again I'm merely an observer when it comes to the classics.
