NES and IOT don't seem to be that different at all. Hopefully this will end just like IOT's protests did with a peaceful clarification of the Mod's powers and how they apply to the games.

May I also just say that I am not surprised in the slightest that Arya seems to be the one who sparked this. He has a pretty deep history of been a problem player, just look at any AC that he has participated in for proof.

Protests are for hippies. Real men storm the palace and kill the tyrants.

I like you.

Anyway, this isn't an argument about IOTs versus NESes. They're the same thing. The only thing different is the culture of authority and this discussion is about that, specifically. It's really hard to argue that all NESes have to be all-inclusive. It's simply a position that cannot hold to scrutiny.

Not to mention what will happen when a player tries to apply to a game where the GM has put them on their ignore list.

Collaboration is treason. Ya'll was warned.

While I support the sentiment Birdjaguar has attempted to enforce, that of cooperation and community, if such has to be enforced it already speaks to the existence of significant obstacles.

While I would love it if every person on this forum got along, the reality is that is not going to happen, just as it doesn't in real life. If a game mod and a player do not get along, forcing them to play nice together is not going to be of benefit to the game, and is probably going to be to the detriment of every other player.

There are plenty of high-quality NESes to play in on this forum, and a few incompatibilities here and there isn't a huge problem, in my opinion.

I did vote yes, because above all I believe in the creative freedom of game mods, and I wouldn't have a mod forced to accept elements in their game against their will.

I found myself a bit torn on this poll. One on hand people like me or terrance where once "noobs" and if we took a country, it'd be like a kiss of death for the nation. We had less experience, less competence, less knowledge, but we were still allowed to play, and from there, and with age, we improved and matured. Now, we're both considered "competent"; terrance runs his nes, I'm playing as Japan (or was?) in Staznes, and we never would have gotten to that point if we were declined admittance into neses. We more than likely would have walked away.

But on the other hand, not every nes is "noob friendly". While some neses are incredibly open to first time players, helping them learn the ropes of the community, others require a player base that is more experienced, and that's exactly what azale wanted. Never did he outright say "Anyone can take any country". He made it clear that you needed an application to take even a minor power, and arya completely missed the mark. It wasn't that arya's orders completely missed the mark; it showed complete ignorance of not just Italy's, but also the world's, politics, economy and more. I think azale rejected it less because he didn't like arya or his platform, but he saw that arya knew literally nothing about the modern global world. So faced with a choice of letting hard work by players such as me, or Symphony or NK or LordofElves or many others who had already put hard work into constructing our backgrounds be simply wasted by a rampantly out of character Italy OR he could simply decline arya and let the game continue, he chose the latter. Could he have done it with more tact? Sure. But the point remains the same

I would like to point out that there is precedence for this; at one time, EQ ran a Fresh start that he only accepted NESers who had been here for a certain time and were "competent". Thlayli's nes didn't take everyone either, where he rejected people who's backgrounds were not up to par. Azale and Thlayli both rejected players for competency issues because they knew they could handle X ammount of players and simply wanted to ensure the best possible nes for everyone. If that meant that a fascist Italy in 2030 or a person who never knew how to sail becoming a pirate king never came to be, then that was the price to ensure a quality nes.

I voted yes. Bring back StazNes, and let azale and arya work it out themselves.

I was allowed a bit more flexibility in the www thread for posting violation made prior to ORI's warning therein. I did not specifically get flexibilty for this thread.
