COTM 06 Pre-Game Discussion

I did some testing of various scout moves. Moving the scout ne,e (or e,ne) and the worker n will give full knowledge of the tiles that would be worked if Lisbon is located NE of the starting tile and only miss one tile for the starting build.

Moving the worker n and the scout 2e will miss out on 1 tile for each probable Lisbon site though it will give more information further out.

Moving the worker n and the scout se,e gives full knowledge of the starting tile Lisbon area but misses out on 3 tiles of the NE build site. Obviously, this also provides more information on southern tiles.

Regarding the fish, once we're in Republic with a harbor, that tile will be generating 4 food and 4 gold, making it the most productive of the visible tiles. For the early game, it's not useful, but it's an extremely good tile later on.

Oh no! Here's the COTM06 pregame thread already and I haven't even begun GOTM36. RL has gotten busy. Still, I will make some plans for COTM06, hoping to catch up.
I haven't even finished COTM5 yet, and haven't qualified for the spoiler yet as I'm stuck in the AA still. Now who's idea was that AA challenge.

When I eventually get into this one, I'll play Predator and I'll settle in place. We have to keep with our theme of adding to the challenge a little.

I've stalled in GOTM36 myself, haven't loaded it since getting to the MA. And let's see... GTA:San Andreas is out on Friday, and there's NaNoWriMo happening in November, not to mention Thanksgiving when I'll be off in the States for a few days... yeah, Other-L is going to be tough.

I think the 5CC 20K is going to be a must.

Neil.

@Ginger Ale: Please keep in mind that Ainwood usually removes the GH's close to the start, to minimize the influence of very early game GH luck (i.e. a settler in 3800 BC)...

Thanks Darkness, did not know that. I guess the number of goodie huts I find will also depend on if my neighbors are expansionist. Knowing ainwood, I figure they are. :goodjob:

Well there go the remaining shreds of my social life.

I also still have COTM05 to finish, GOTM36 to start, and a bit of RL to deal with!

Looks like the obvious strat is to get a settler out ASAP looking for a good settler factory spot - farmer's gambit, and republic slingshot. From there, a perfectly timed Great Lighthouse inducing GA, helping with a swordsmen sweep on the rest of the starting continent. Or am I hoping for too much?

Mine :satan: And I was pretty happy with it :p.
I guess it has something to do with my "hate to research and hate to trade" attitude.
COTM5 was good for this, I doubdt that I would like to try it in any other COTMs including coming COTM6.

I know it was yours really, and actually it was a fine idea, its my own time that has slowed me. I will save my analysis for the spoiler if I ever get there.

Thinking of a challenge for those who feel monarch is too easy, how about a win by UN and you aren't allowed to ever trade with anyone. That means you'll have to do all your own research and get those additional luxuries & resources via warfare, yet still remain well enough liked to get the vote without the aid of MPPs, MAs or late game gifts.

For me, I'll be again trying to get Mursilis into space again. It'll probably come down to COTM6 or GOTM37 for this month, with the Thanksgiving (US) Holiday, I'll be losing a play weekend when the COTM6 is coming due, adding to that 4 SG's (my limit). If I happen to finish it early enough, it'll still be tough to find enough time to play GOTM37 before COTM7 starts. And since Ainwood has promised something special for the last game of the year, I want to be sure to be able to enjoy that one.

And do not forget that GOTM37 is on deity.

A fossilised walrus. Canadians, by reputation, are supposed to be into hunting, fishing and shooting. I wasn't aware that you are allowed to hunt walrus.

"The Qualicum Beach Walrus, the most complete Ice Age walrus found on this coast of North America. "Rambling Rosie" is estimated to be 70,000 years old."

Why we do not have Ice Age before Ancient Age?
Conquer the world in Ice Age! – Sounds .

How embarrassing  I really should check out the local attractions one of these days. From the web site: "Take a journey into our prehistoric past at the Vancouver Island Paleontology Museum, which displays one of the most complete collections of Vancouver Island fossils, featuring fossils from all over British Columbia and the world. The star of the museum is Rambling Rosie"

Sounds like fun, something to do after catching up on Civ, which will come after an assignment I'm currently on :)

The wines are not on a river, so Settler NE is required if you want to irrigate them at the start.

Since the city space is automatically considered irragated, shouldn't you still be able to irrigate the wines, since the tile is connected to the city?
