Bulgaria = Alaska. Poor Tolni.

Also, CA has world's eighth largest GDP, booyah

Aw man, we're some random boring state. :(
At least Alaska has Wolverine !

My cousin recently married a guy who came from South Dakota (or North Dakota? probably the same) and they've just moved back there. From what I've heard, it's very, very, very boring.

Flyover heartland really doesn't look good on this.

Wolverine is Canadian (or British since Canada was still part of the empire when he was born).

Well, one of them has oil, and the other has Mount Rushmore. Or maybe the one that has oil also has Mount Rushmore? And the other one just sucks?

Too confusing.

That's a really interesting map.

I grew up in Connecticut / Pakistan. A few years ago I was going through the CIA World FactBook, and saw how many people live in Pakistan. I was floored. That country is teeming! Connecticut only has, like what, 3M at most? So to see that they're roughly equivalent in GDP really shows how wealthy US states are.

3.5million roughly in CT. 182million in Pakistan. That really is a stunning difference.

Judging a military's power simply by its numbers isn't a good idea, as even the blurb on top hints when it talks about quality and professionalism.... But anyways, I'm actually surprised that Japan is so high on the list. Then again, Japan is what they call one screw away from a nuclear bomb in that they can easily make one but don't, so I guess they can also easily field a decent military too at the end of the day.

What you can field at the end of the day doesn't really matter if you get attacked in the morning. :)

Why does North Korea like submarines so much?

To blockade South Korea. Possibly to project power in the medium distance. They could never do so with surface ships. They really can't with subs, either. Not after the first week, at any rate. These are slow and primitive short range subs. Japan has a lot of anti-submarine warfare forces. So does South Korea. We have even more.

For North Korea they've probably counted all the ships which sunk due to lack of maintenance ^^.

Whoever ranked this, didn't do it on a measure I can understand. How the hell is this ranked? Why is the Czech Republic above Algeria o_O?
Germany does for sure not have the 7th most powerful army in the world.
Just compare it to turkey below. Or nearly all other countries.
And money doesn't mean that you have working equipment either.

EDIT: Also don't really trust the numbers.
It would mean that the forces of France, Germany, Italy and Poland are of roughly equal manpower compared to the Russian forces (not considering UK, because deployment is problematic there). Okay, less tanks, more planes, but Russia is also a tad bit bigger and more difficult to defend.
