DaNES II: When the Stars Fall

Another few things: are these Hellenoarabic poleis' ships entirely separate from the Seleukid navy? Could you possibly give them some stats so that I know what I'm dealing with, please, or give me a description of precisely what they are, where they are, and how their politics works?

Furthermore, even though Commander Gorma hasn't asked, could we have a faction rundown for the Patalene League?

Also, I've got less income than last turn. I can see that I lost money through general pillaging and war weariness, but is it the case that I can expect an automatic financial boost next turn (once the satrap has got everyone to pay taxes to us again) from regaining Susiane and Persis, given that I lost 4600 talents of income when it was occupied? Or is it the case that the profit from regaining Susiane has already been made and cancelled out by the problems of war?

I also suspect from what you wrote that I should now have a Faction called Karmania in the stats.

We remember an overly arrogant Skythoi envoy from some years ago, who swaggered into our assembly, made funny faces at the bouleutai, and attempted to lecture our elder statesmen on the naivety of peace.

Now, that Skythoi's home is probably burning, his family slain or enslaved, and we reflect, what was this envoy doing in Panormos when he might have been fortifying his home against the onslaught of those fearsome Antes and Goths?

Perhaps this is the true lesson of what is naive: Sticking one's face into the affairs of distant powers while failing to attend to those closer to home. Sending most of one's military on a grand adventure across the sea while one's homelands are ransacked by barbaroi might be an example of this naivety. Perhaps, perhaps not. Anyhow, we wish you luck in your grueling wars to come, while we negotiate a peaceful solution to our own.

-speaking to the corpse-

O vile knave, next time, do not call to lecture us on duty and honour when you have so willfully abandoned your allies for your own ends. For over the past half decade we have seen that the Pizzerian merchant is the lowest of filth of all beings, infested with maggots and brimming with E. Coli in his deception and trickery. He tends to his allies like a wolf to a flock of sheep, abandoning them to the slaughter and ripping out flesh for his own gain. Yet even in this he is not so noble as a wolf, who challenges his prey, but he is like a maggot, a worm, a parasite to the entire oikumene. For too long we have tolerated his presence amongst ourselves in the oikumene, allowing his plague to spread far and wide. We urge you all, Chaonians, Mysians, Makedonians, Aigyptians, Perseids; make peace and wipe out this swarm of flies! For only Sophia knows who they might infest next should they be left to swarm.

It seems this war is at ultimate stalemate with fighting only hurting both sides without benefit to either. We'd like to negotiate peace with borders at the Huai River, close to where they currently are.

Such a proposition, though well conceived, is not in the best interests of the Daliang.

In our goodness and mercy we are willing to make perpetual peace at prewar borders in exchange for 100 talents to be paid at a rate no less than 10 talents a year.

It is acceptable.

Secede to us the territory marked in red on this map, and we shall have peace.

The term you're looking for is cede, not secede.

Also, no.

You shall recongize the supremacy of the Qagan, you shall pay us a sum of 1,900 talents in this year, and then in the following, every half decade you shall pay us a yearly tribute of 500 talents.

OOC: Dachs are the stats right?? Dude has a lot of money despite me and Mazageta raping his land.

OOC: Dachs question about the stats. Why is my Baktrian income 6000 talents lower this year despite the annexation of huge amounts of land?

Thanks to my scorched earth policy your land is useless. Ha ha.

OOC: Yes my new land may be. But it does not explain why it would reduce my overall income.

The majority of your fleet lies in a smoking ruin at the base of the Mediterranean. You have lost almost all of Italy, and you have no way of reinforcing it. Furthermore, you are running out of funds with which to pay your troops. And most of those troops are engaged in an entirely separate war to begin with.

So, we propose this. Withdraw from Apoulia, recognize our suzerainty over all of Megale Hellas, and we will give you 100 talents in compensation. Then, we will have peace and friendship once more.

Refuse, and we will simply take what we want, destroy the rest of your fleet, strangle your trade, and wait for your armies to mutiny due to lack of pay.

Your pitiful nation first drags us into a useless war, then your land gets looted and you surrender and ask us to give tribute. Though my army did not suffer nearly as much as yours we still accepted the offer, and as your Italian armies remained in ruins I chose not to seek revenge and take your lands, instead focusing on the barbaric people to the east. You then choose to repay my kindness by taking my undefended lands.

I'll let you know now, that once my armies have burned Makedonia we will turn our attentions back to the spoiled merchant nation. Your merchants will throw their gold at us, and kiss our feet while begging for their lives, but we will not show an mercy nor kindness to the fat merchants instead their homes shall burn, their daughters taken, and sons slaughtered. Chaonia will show your merchants the price of living off the hard work of others.

The following treaty is the offer of the Areian Basileus to the Seleukid Basileus of Peace, following consultation with the Arkat of Armenia. The Seleukid Basileus, the Arkat of Armenia, and the Strategos of the Patalene League are all invited to sign, although the treaty stands even if some of these parties fail to sign.

Treaty of Artemita

1. The Seleukids cede to Armenia all the territory currently occupied by Armenian forces.

2. The Seleukid Basileus pays the Areian Basileus 4000 talents.

3. The Seleukid Basileus pays the Arkat of Armenia 500 talents.

4. The Seleukids are to recognise Areian rights to Susiane, Persis, and Karmania.

5. The Seleukids cede to Areia, as shown on the map, the Eastern bank of the Tigris as far South as Artemita, including Artemita; the Seleukids also cede the coastal areas of Susiane that they rule to Areia. (See map.)

6. The Seleukids will not pay the Hellenoarabic poleis along the Persian Gulf to attack Areian or Patalan shipping.

7. The Seleukids will not try to assert any form of sovereignty over these said Hellenoarabic poleis.

8. All hostilities between the Patalene League's forces, the Seleukid Basileus's forces, the Areian Basileus's forces, and the forces of the Arkat of Armenia and all his lords shall stop immediately.

Signed Basileus Platon of Areia

Dachs, there's definitely an error in my stats, as I mentioned in my PM to you. I recruited 4,000 infantry this turn, (see the revised spending Orders PM) and lost 3,750. I remember having in the area of 15,000 infantry last turn, but now I have ~13,000. Can you take a look at this please?

Our Italian lands, barring Romania, were never looted. And it is not armies, but fleets, that decide any contest between us.

While we never sought a war with Chaonia, your alliance with the Perseid Empire drew us into war. Your lands in Italy were undefended, and we took advantage of that. It was purely a business matter.

Now, you have lost most of your ships, and your Perseid allies have already agreed to peace with us, leaving you alone. Even your Italian cities that we have occupied have agreed to join us. So, you can take what we offer, or continue to fight and lose more. If you MUST have a face saving gesture, we will increase our offer for your withdrawal from Italy to 200 talents. But if you still refuse, we will be forced to take further action.

I did not say your lands, I said your armies and they still are.

A purely business matter is all it is to the merchant nation, and that is why you do not understand that we care little for money and luxuries.

The Chaonian spirit wil not be bought, we are not spoiled merchants satisfied with useless coin. You actions are disgraceful taking cities not even defended, there is no glory in that.

Chaonia will allow you to return the cities back as an apology for the Italian war.

The Italian cities which you formerly owned have already agreed to join Panormos. As such, we will defend them as we would any portion of the Republic.

You can accept compensation, or you can accept further humiliation. It is your decision, basileus.
