The Western and Eastern Churches were at loggerheads since well before the Great Schism. Having Byzantium start off as Orthodox isn't strictly accurate but it's better than adding yet more iron fisted determinism later in the game.

Right on point, the East and West had been drifting apart for a great deal of the later Roman imperial history. Diocletian's division of the Empire, and Constantine's founding of Constantinople only made this divide a more permanent and visible reality. Remember Basil I had angered the Pope by cleverly convincing Bulgaria to follow the See of Constantinople over Rome, by "excluding Rome and Constantinople from advising the Bulgarians and referring the question to the other Patriarchates...which were consequently in the East. :lol:"

You could do what Rhye has done in RFC:Europe, have The Great Schism impose an immediate diplomatic penalty between Orthodoxy and Catholicism.
 
while we're bringing up Byzantium, do we know if the Varangians are accessible in the merc window?
 
What happened to the Amsterdamn fish? Does it spawn later now, or is it gone forever? My poor dutchmen are hungry :(

Huh? I thought it was just moved one south, at least it was in my last game.
 
It should spawn with the Dutch.

Hey Leoreth,

Here's my really, really long XML error log. It exceeded the size limit for .doc and .txt filetypes, so I compressed it into a slightly more convenient .rar archive.

In essence, it details all the unmodified tags causing conflicts and errors in the game.

That one doesn't seem to contain your problems. I'll look for the file it would go into.
 
i tried to download the mod but the website the installer opens in (game front) just closes and wont reopen. am i doing something wrong?
 
Hi im having trouble trying to get the mognol horde mechanic as well as the roman mandate army mechanic to work correctly. the mongol hordes dont seem to spawn in russia or the middle east and the mandate armies never seem to form. Not sure if this is a bug or not
 
The extra Mongol units are not meant for you, only the AI. For the mandate armies, they should appear the turn after your declaration of war, unless you declared in the first few turns of the game. Also, it doesn't work against civs that don't live in the Mediterranean region.

Nah, thirteenth century mandate armies don't tend to do large damage anyway, so leave them in for giggles.
