Dawn of Civilization - an RFC modmod by Leoreth

Sounds like your PC is underpowered. This is not the fault of he modmod.

I'm playing with a PC that was built 2 years ago and I have never had the sort of issues that you are describing.

Can someone help me? Okay, my problem is that this modmod... Is REALLY REALLY frustrating at getting to work properly!

Here's my issue, basically I am playing as (I play as small civilisations because I knew that a modmod could be problematic) Tibet and by 950 CE I have had to save the game and quit. However, on other games I have made it to at least... 1500 CE? Before the game crashed in error (I don't care about the error crashes, I just want the freezing to be fixed).

I just want to clarify, the problem I need solved is the freezing, NOT any of the missing Python error crashes, I always save my game every turn on the same file. (paranoid but hey, it has saved my ascot so many times.)

For example, I'm playing as Tibet right? (It's happened on others.) However, I move the screen slightly and it takes 5 seconds to load the next frame, which you can imagine is FRUSTRATING! Especially when I'm trying to keep an eye on my cities and Taizong's Xi'an and Chengdu and the Independent Pataliputra.

I'm guessing this problem was caused due to my graphics being set to 'High', so that went right down to 'Low', and this solved the problem... For another few centuries...

I don't get it, I simply don't! I would have thought it's because of the amount of civilisations, but I've had up to 36 before (without freezing like a Popsicle!) and this doesn't even come up to 10! I have tried numerous ways and they've helped slightly:

x Saving my game every turn.
x Setting my graphics to 'Low'.
x Staying zoomed-in and focused on to my region only.
x Trying to give away all of my stuff so the pesky AI doesn't contact me and force me to freeze in to oblivion.

I'm guessing this is because the modmod is really intense, not as intense as C2C (that only lasted for 2 seconds) but still intense, is this for 64 bit computers only? If so, I will have a huge lump in my throat, because this modmod is brilliant and I don't want it to be too advanced for this computer to handle :'[ (Like every mod there is... Or modmod...)

Oh, and a final question if you can, may I please inquire on where you all obtain your supercomputers?

What type of a computer are you running? I had similar issues with running this mod till a few days ago. It turned out that it was a problem with my graphics card (it was getting overheated, causing the game to crash). I had it replaced and the game started working correctly. But, before you do something so drastic, make sure the other specs are upto the mark.

I don't see how the graphics card would matter, I've had really heavy games of RFC before (not DoC) but my computer was always working fine. The computer I am running is a Dell Optiplex 990 desktop computer.

Were you able to get this to work? When I Alt+Z to Baibars all the cities look like ruins.

ive seen that happen before and with just using the in game switch.

if i remember correctly, you can go into wb and look at your cities correctly. after a few turns everything reverts to normal

I found out where a lot of the lag comes from, ENGLAND!

Whenever I look at London the game lags unbearably! However, it does lag in other places. I think it happens with REALLY REALLY populated cities, and... When playing as any East Asian civilisation... That's a big problem.

Also, I got a memory allocation failure after trying to play three different games.

That is likely a result of your machine's shortcomings; as in the past,
that particular issue is uniquely associated with RAM and processing issues.

4GB of RAM has been sufficient for most to play the current revision of this mod;
it appears that it is the minimum threshold though.
If you would like to try, you can revert DoC to an older revision;
playing 1.81 without many issues was definitely possible for me,
when I was playing it on a laptop with 2GB RAM.
But you will not have access to newer features, unfortunately.
If it's at all possible, if you are playing on a desktop, perhaps you can search on Newegg for the necessary parts to upgrade your computer.

EDIT: I just checked the specs on your machine.
DoC should work fine on your desktop without many problems.
Are you running a lot of programs in the background while playing? (Mozilla, Steam, iTunes, etc.)

I have Google Chrome open with a large selection of tabs (about 16... Hehe... I'll delete them...) with some other background programmes which I just ignore (Steam, just the log-in menu, GameSpy Comrade which keeps bugging me, MSN which is just log-in needed and Origin, etc. I don't sign in in to either of them).

EDIT: I have 4GB RAM I just checked :[ 32 bit.

Airrifle48942, I do not think your problem comes from DoC. For most of last year I played DoC 1.9 and 1.10 on a laptop below the Civ IV minimum specs, so it can be done! I was using a graphics card that did not have hardware T&L, an ancient Celeron processor, and a 32GB hard drive that was mostly occupied by Windows+Civ, and played to the Space Age slowly but without crashes. I had installed 1 GB of RAM though (thank you Dad!) so perhaps that makes a critical difference.

Obviously there was no possibility of using the Variatas Delectat/Ethnic City Styles expansion pack - you haven't tried to install that, have you?

That's not such a good idea on a low spec machine!

Oh. I sort of thought it was the mod due to my previous experience with another mod, but I'll try this and hopefully it will work :]

EDIT: So I used WB to test if the game was not lagging and surprisingly, it actually didn't lag over England, and I zoomed out slightly. But now the lag centre has moved all the way to Mesopotamia, I would delete Processes via Task Manager, too... If I knew what they meant...

I'm working on downloading now, and I've enjoyed previous versions, but the site you use as a downloading mirror is dreadful. I had to search to figure out how NOT to get all the random stuff they wanted me to install and they still slipped one by me and I had to fix my chrome settings :/ I know there's got to be a better site somewhere..
UPDATE: I'm sorry but the .rar file isn't opening, and it's not worth it to me to try again tonight. Seriously, there's got to be a better way.

If you try the SVN it should be easier.

The Thai's 3rd UHV condition, is it to guarantee no Europeans or to legit conquer everything in South Asia?

Well... that's one way to do it.

It's not allow any 'foreign' colonies in South Asia. So far, in my South Asia, there's me, as the Thai, Indonesia, Tamils and the Mughals. I just kicked out Spain from the Philippines. Who's the foreigner here?

The Dutch have been relegated to Guyana, kicked out of Europe very early on by an aggressive HRE, I don't think they'll have their Company event. Portugal is weak and feeble and currently a vassal to Spain, I doubt they'll get their Company event to get either India or Cantao.

Edit: An additional question: the stability points you would earn through the civic 'Occupation', would they be erased if you switched out?
