Just curious: For someone with 3-4GB RAM, how much time does one turn take in the 19th century? Assuming that the world is filled with colonies.

I have 8GB, and it take about 10-25 secs. It varies though... when a Civ is born, or a civ collapsed it would take longer than usual.

I also have 8GB and can confirm about the same amount of time, actually less; typically about 4-11 seconds.
I try to make sure there are no European colonies to improve the speed.
 
RAM helps a lot if there are lots of units to display in the game, but I don't think it's the most important factor for long turn times in the late game, where processor speed is probably more important. And remember that Civ4 doesn't support multithreading so only one of your multiprocessors is doing all the work.

I'm trying the Russian UHV atm and I find it rather hard to get people to friendly without this bonus. I've already got three (peace)vassals, but America is currently refusing to become my vassal because 'I have grown too powerful for them' while Germany has a -8 modifier towards me for being close, and other nations aren't all that likely to get friendly. I'll try with Abbas and Yacob-al Mansur.
Maybe the third UHV goal can be changed to 'Ensure all civilizations are communist by 1950'? It is definitely achievable, and relies less on the unreliable nature of the AI.

By the way, how do you trigger Hitler? I've made Germany run Autocracy and Totalitarianism and they're in the Industrial age, but they're still run by Bismarck. Do they have to be in the Modern Era?
 
Nope, Totalitarianism should suffice (same for the Third Reich dynamic name).

Bringing Hitler to power has never been easier!
 
It can take up to ten turns before a new leaderhead takes over. I think the leaders are only checked once every ten years.
 
Leaders are checked whenever dynamic names are checked though.
 
It may be a stupid question, but would running DOC on 1024x768 (screen resolution) strain my pc less than while running on 1280x800?
 
I don't think so. DoC is heavy on RAM and CPU, but not your GPU.

First Indian UHV (Buddhist/Hindu shrine by 100 BC) doesn't have the turn number next to it (if you don't have calendar). Also getting a Hindu temple by reconversion of Pagan temple does not found Buddhism (which might be intentional, but is not really clear).
 
It's intentional, you have to build it.
 
Far distance to the future, when this mod is already complete, let's develop the Marathon version of DoC... adding events and details that is too short to be represented in normal turn of DoC...

never mind. By the way, I wonder since the graphic for Archery unit is a bit awkward; where they use their bow to hit the enemy's head until they falls... has anybody create such graphic that can replace the current graphic, or that's impossible because it's built-in by Firaxis? lol.
 
Let's just replace the fighting mechanism with a real time Total War style battle simulation.
