Well I have worse news... I couldn't choose anything from my side of the trading table when trading with some of my vassals (I think it was Egypt and Ethiopia but it just happened from time to time and I didn't pay attention on who it was) as China.
And sometimes the AI wouldn't take more than 3 or 23 gold from me even though I had thousands, (trading techs for world maps is really a poor trade...). I couldn't even propose to give more gold (I would type the amount of gold, press OK, but nothing happened).
That sounds really bad. Odd that it never occured to me.
By the way, do you have any idea on when the next release will be ?
When it's done
Another possibility for a modern China might be a Manchu/Jurchen civ? I think both Manchus and Jurchens are historically significant entity separate from rest of Chinese history because at the time, most Chinese people considered them to be foreign occupiers (sort of as in the case for Yuan Dynasty China). Manchuria also was significant in the Sino-Japanese war as a vassal state of Japan.
I think having a modern Chinese civ focused on accomplishing more specific UHV goals of a more modern China (such as the Manchus) might make gameplay in that area of the world more interesting.
Thing is, the current China UHV already extends to 1850.
Regarding the total war setting, if civ A uses the total war warpath against civ B, does that mean civ B automatically fights civ A with the total warpath as well?
Otherwise I think the total war warpath idea could be applied to Romans vs Carthaginians (Carthage must be destroyed...), Persians to Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks, Turkey towards the Byzantines and HRE, and Germany towards France and Russia by a certain year.
No, that's not the case. As I understand, the attacked civ doesn't have a war plan at all unless set otherwise under certain circumstances (which is where my knowledge about AI ends ...).
Turkey->Byzantines is already in. "By a certain year" is impossible, because it only affects the wars that auto-start when a civ spawns, and the total wars are only in to ensure they'll totally conquer their set enemies when appropriate. Greece->Egypt would make sense under these circumstances, and maybe also Persia->Babylonia, but that's not that necessary anyway.
wouldn't Turks - HRE lead to a Turkish Germany?
If Turkey is able to defeat them, yes. And that's exactly what I not want to - it's to force the AI conquer nation they should from a historical perspective, but won't attack because of religious friendship.
Hey, I was playing v1.63 and I started an English game hoping to hop over to Italy and it never gives me the chance to switch to them when they spawn. I've always held to it that Italy, out of all the modern civs, deserved an RFC slot the most.
Well, maybe Rhye didn't want to look biased

By the way, I've recently added him as a Italian Great Artist dynamic name
On your problem, did Italy spawn properly? You get the message to switch one turn after their initial stack appears.
