Decline in OT activity

There's one particular poster (whose name I won't mention as forum rules prevent me from singling a poster out) who literally brings up MRA's more than the rest of the entire forum combined.

It's sad because that's probably the only poster that gives a rat's ass about MRA's, and the rest of us would be perfectly happy with not having to hear about them, and to not have their threads which have nothing whatsoever to do with MRA's being derailed into another MRA subject.

In other words, both "pro" MRA comments, and "anti" MRA comments should be banned on the spot, because discussion of the subject is repetitive, predictable and tiring. It's become a cliche thing for CFC, and not in a good way.
Interesting. Let's review this thread to find the culprit.

One perpetual frustration is how limited the scope of discussion can be here. We pretty much limit our topics to "serious" sociopolitical topics. Rare is the thread that alights the forum with an alternative topic. Those rare few who do start threads on alternative topics may feel understandably frustrated by a lack of interest by others in the community.

I'd like forum goers to participate more in non-sociopolitical threads if only as a means of adding some occasional diversity.

Interesting. Let's review this thread to find the culprit.

If it were limited to one thread I wouldn't have complained in the first place. There are many, many threads. I would realistically estimate that at least 25% of all OT threads period mention MRA's in them at least once, and this one specific poster is responsible for it more than the others combined.

You have the feminist/mra threads from the start and that's one (predictable) thing . But to see a thread that has nothing to do with gender relations whatsoever that gets derailed into another one of those- it gets old.

Don't know if that made sense.
Makes sense.

Civ five just hasn't been that popular (we can discuss why but it certainly didn't bring in the tons of new posters Civ4 did) while most of the younger kids seem to be sticking with social media instead of internet forums.

This forum would make you think that but actually civ5 outsold all the others and is doing incredibly well. Unfortunately, and here's where I'd actually be a stricter moderator, the site allowed constant derailing of just about every single civ5 thread by detractors such that I think when the game first came out and the new forum types were lurking where they wanted to learn civ5, a bunch were way turned off from cfc.

Less people post here because less people play firaxis games. Civ5 was in every way a huge disappointment, BE was even more broken and starships hardly is played at all.

You reap what you sow firaxis, you can pretend everything is fine but people vote with their feet.

I've been here for a few years and lurked on a weekly and sometimes daily basis since ~2010. I just don't post that often because I don't see the point. My political views are similar to most on here and arguing is too much work.

That's sort of why I'd like to see more variation in thread topic.

Like if dick pics are actually a good online dating strat or not. I'm genuinely curious! Guys keep doing it so it might be working....

Just off the top of my head, people may be interested in discussing fashion, art, philosophy, pets, sports, interior design, movies, table top role playing games, urban planning, heraldry, gnostic religions, humor, theater, food, tourism, relationships, childrearing, archaeology, dance, poetry, or genealogy.

I took a hiatus from CFC when the OT split happened and came back just a little before OT was reunited, so I don't have any first hand experience with its effects. However, I can say that I am less active these days. Much of it is because I honestly don't have interest in wading into any of the more serious debate threads. Internet arguing is not my forte, nor is it good for my stress. I am, to an extent, only hanging around CFC because of the community here, my internet friends, if you will.

However, I do think some of this has to do with the higher profile, debate-interested posters like Form, MobBoss, and so on leaving or not being very active anymore. Without those guys, the rest of us who are more laid back and not as trigger happy, for lack of better wording, are not *as* interested in having a good ol' fashioned internet fistfight.

The babe thread is cool because it's both a competition and a place where you can see the juxtaposition of poster personalities and... another side of their personalities. I felt like I learned a lot from checking in once in a while back in the day and posting a bit in the past few months.

Actually that's a good point. I do learn a bit about people from seeing a... deeper part of various poster's personalities, possible cultural/regional influences, and so on.

I loved some of those personal relationship threads. Viet Cong had a few.

Chair ownership. Toilet lid practices.

Alright I'm convinced that there's more to discuss beyond stale political topics. Let's get to work.

How would OT react if I begin spamming Bulgarian news applied with appropriate comments added by me?
