Deity Isolation Workshop (Stan/Norm/Fractal/NH/NE)

Okay, sounds good. Maybe the map shouldn't be toooo easy though, with Pacal as leader :)

Even tho FIN almost feels a bit restrictive with cottages being so good. I don't mind Pacal and will definitely join, though I would find some "2nd tier" leader like Mehmed or Washington really interesting aswell

I don't really like Christmas either -- I only think that the smilies are terribly ugly with a naked head -- just give them a cap or something..

That being said, @sampsa wouldn't you just jump out of your cave and join the SG? :deadhorse:

I'd follow the game if you were to create one, but I'd rather not commit to a roster and playing turns. Have some very busy weeks and months ahead. I may suddenly disappear.

Yup we don't need a fixed roster.

To anybody willing to "make" a map, please go ahead -- there are only two rules here:
  1. There should be no possible contact before Optics (i.e. there is at least 3 ocean tiles between our island and any inhabited continent)
  2. It has to be an unaltered map

I think it would be fun to play an island that has lots of jungle -- these do usually have great land but require IW to develop, so they offer interesting early choices and are very rewarding when played "right" :)

Got it. I'll be loading up a bunch of maps tonight to find the right one. Do you want an 'easier' isolation map or harder one?

I think anything that doesn't have gold/gems in BFC or for a potential second city would be good (jungle gems don't count). But wouldn't you prefer to play instead? (you can still play even if you make the map, but it would probably be more fun for you if you have never seen it)

I think it doesn't, but you have to do the "unreveal all tiles" thingy to every player that gets swapped around.

Thanks for the invitation. Right now I'm very much enjoying just reading this thread and investigating the saves. :)

Generated two...

First one with jungle gems and longish jungle river. For sure need IW here.
I hope I swapped correctly (surely did unreveal and gave barbs archery)

Second one... I think it is way to easy for you given write ups in this thread (after seeing maybe I could try it myself... with the map knowledge, lol). This one actually completely natural no swaps, no messing in WB.

First one looking good :)

If you're not sure, barbs start with Ag, TW, Hunting, Archery and every AI starts with 2*Settler, 1*Worker, 4*Archer and 2*Scout

I'm ok with both options.

Btw, @Lain when you have a bit of spare time it would be nice if you could update the first post -- we've played many more games and there has been a lot of interesting input by various people :)

I think a new thread would be better because it's already a bit difficult to navigate this one.

I'll ask here since I'm sure you guys know this by heart, having played so many isolation maps. When you are building triremes and learn Optics, do they turn into Caravels, so you can quickly whip them? I never recall if triremes get outdated, or are still legible builds post-Optics.

Nope. You can build triremes and upgrade them (50g I think). Otherwise you can build caravels in 1t with chops and whip overflow or a 3pop cold whip.

Since it generally takes 1t after optics to get enough gold to upgrade a trireme to a caravel it's usually best to get to get them via the other methods. Notable exception is when you don't have a coastal city on one coast. In that case you can sail a trireme around and upgrade it on the other side as long as you have a water tile within your cultural borders. That can save quite a few turns.
