DLC 6 Anticipation Thread

Right, but Civ6 is my first game, and I didn't care if America was included.
Most Americans are considerably less attached to their country than citizens of some other countries are. There seems to be an inversely proportionate relationship between global significance and nationalism. :p

I don't know about that. Americans are pretty ridiculously into America.

As I once said earlier somewhere, Filipinos love the United States more than Americans love their own country.

Most Americans are only dimly aware the rest of the world exists, but most Americans really aren't overly attached to the American state or all "huzzah!" over being American. If you call an American a Canadian, he'll laugh and maybe correct you; if you call a Brazilian Hispanic or a Pole Russian you risk starting World War 3. ;)

Japan, too. But not Korea. A Korean taxi driver once told my parents as they got in his taxi, "Korea is number one; America is number two." They just smiled and nodded. :p

I would say that Americans are extremely patriotic, more so out side of the major cities than in them. I do agree however that most Americans don't care about playing as the United States in a game like Civ. Being such a melting pot, we love other cultures, but don't mistake that for not loving our country. Leave it out of an iteration of Civ and we wouldn't riot or freak out, but you would hear about it. I know that I do not care to play as America, but I would be annoyed if we weren't represented.

Moderator Action: ok everyone please get back on topic

The Philippines with the Cebuano Wikipedia ability would be interesting: upon researching Social Media, for one turn, the Philippines would gain beakers equalling to ten times its current culture output.

This would allow the Philippines to be able to pursue the Science Victory and the Cultural Victory at the same time, while primarily focusing on culture.

Why Cebuano Wikipedia? It's going to eclipse the English Wikipedia in article count before the end of this year, while only a few years ago, it had fewer than 50,000 articles.

I consider myself moderately patriotic, but I wouldn't mind seeing America and other modern nations left out--but then if I designed the game it would end in the fifteenth century before America was even discovered. :p Actually, without a proper Earth map (and no, the one currently in game is not a proper Earth map) I'm not sure what advantage Civ6 holds over a fantasy TBS beyond featuring historical civs...(I don't care about TSL--in fact, in Civ5 I always rather enjoyed the subtle absurdity of finding civs on the opposite end of the world from where they were located historically--I just miss the...I don't know, the investment in the setting that the real Earth map gave me in Civ5.)

I was going to make a remark about being astonished that it would have more than Mandarin, but then I figured that's what happens when you censor the internet. :mischief: I still would have thought Spanish or French would have been more likely competitors, though. (I'll tell you what's not a competitor for article count, though: Catalan Wikipedia. I needed Catalan place names for a project I was working on, and I have to say Catalan Wikipedia is very...deficient.)

For the sake of being on-topic...

From what I've read so far, the estimated release of the new DLC is late October. So that means we'll be anticipating the release of the new civ around 2 weeks from that date and the new leader a week before the release?

The second civ or leader will be the Tuesday or Thursday before release, and the first will be a day or two before that.

For clarification: is this definitively the LAST DLC to be released prior to an xpack set for release nearly a year from now? Why such a long content gap? Or, in other words, why didn't Firaxis space out the DLCs a bit more so there wouldn't be such a long content drought prior to the xpack? I'm just curious on why the timing was so frontloaded re: new content.

The only thing we know for certain is that it is the last DLC that will be included in the DD edition. There could be more DLC after this, we don't know one way or another yet.

The only thing what I would buy, it's a better A.I DLC. I don't care about new DLC, as the A.I now is STUPID and easy to beat in Deity.

If Civ GH (whatever that is) is released after the SEA DLC then that might help with any potential "content drought". Since the first major expansion would probably be released in 2018 I wouldn't be surprised we get at least a MAJOR patch sometime before the release, whether that includes Civs, Wonders, etc... is up to Firaxis.

Not to mention that much of the DLC so far (*cough* Poland *cough* Australia *cough*) is obviously targeted at a specific market. Add in a new civ and people in that country are likely to buy the DLC. A new leader for an existing civ has infinitely less market-broadening appeal

I disagree. Yes, Poland and Australia are targeted at a specific market (though I also do have to say Poland has a very interesting history and, in my Dutch opinion, more to be proud of than the Netherlands, who have been in every civ since III), but the other three civs, Persia, Macedon and Nubia, very much are not. Or would you argue that they're targeted at the Iranian, FYROMian or... Sudanese (?) markets?

May I recommend Sins of a Solar Empire instead? I'm reasonably certain that that game's AI is sentient and malevolent. :p

Can we have more moderation of these kinds of posts? Coming to this thread just to complain about the A.I. and not have any interest in, or not willing to mention anything about, the DLC is just being off-topic. I'm not saying it's not ok to complain about the AI, just be on-topic.

*sorry for the tone, I'm just so stressed today *

OK I missed something , we know this for certain because ?

edit: thx browd

I am back after playing XCOM 2:WotC for 3 days (I immensely enjoyed it!)

Back on topic, I do hope the next DLC will be as fun as Nubia and Australia. I am still learning how to play Poland properly, and Macedon and Persia looks OP to me it bored me. And if the SE civ would be Vietnam, I also hope Trung sisters appear as one leader and not separate. If it's Indonesia, I would have no issues on whoever will be the leader, as long as the leader ability and the civ unique ability is not like any other civ / or is fun.
