DMAW04 - A Testing War

I have patched, and I have also installed the patch for the patch (here), which is supposed to solve the problems that have been reported so far. I have another laptop with an unpatched BtS available if need be.

NOOOOOOOOOO :aargh:

I've already patched. I'll have to uninstall and re-install and uninstall and re-install just to make sure and re-patch old patch.

I haven't patched (well I did but re-installed from scratch). Who has and who hasn't?
I've not patched. And from what I can tell, there seems to be some issues with the 3.13 patch. I'd prefer to wait until the dust settles before patching. But as I've not been active lately, please don't base the decision solely on my vote.

OK, civman123 if you can play in the next 48 hours, swap with Conroe otherwise we'll wait.
I had hoped to have been able to play this weekend, but I don't see it happening. A skip would probably be best at this point. Not sure about civman, since we haven't heard anything from him either.

yena, looks like it is all yours.

If we can play 3.03, we'll do that.

This is the first time I remember having these issues, all other patches were backwards compatible

Lurker: When there are such major changes, backwards compatibility isn't feasible. The same happened with a C3C patch, 1.22, or before. Since you aren't playing multiplayer (which does seem to have problems), I'd be inclined to update, and play against a better AI, with better balanced (and faster, believe it or not) gameplay. That's just my opinion. Anyway, great game so far, I've been following it and am enjoying it!

Actually, there is a workaround for the SGOTM problem, so if we can actually upgrade to 3.13 it would be good (hope you haven't re-installed yet berserks!).

 One example of why one should never jump to conclusions maybe

If we don't hear fom civman123 in the next couple of days we may need to source a replacement (Jamesds??).

Yeah, I'd be happy to give it a go, but we'll see whether civman123 returns before making any decisions, of course.

One more thing about the patch: I actually had an AI reduce my town to a village, for the first time...with a spy!

I'm playing with 3.13 since it is certainly better than 3.03, even if there are some small problems left.

165: Pre-turn: everything looks OK
166: Using GG for a medic
167: Somehow we met Saladin, and get another DoW
168: Stealing a worker from Zara
169: Took another worker. Zaras capital, Aksum, is only defended by 2 archers and a spear!
170: Zara adds an axe in Aksum. Pillaging some wheat.
172: Pillaging sheep and a mine, getting another worker.
173: Zaras iron mine destroyed. Lost an immortal to a German axeman outside Being at >90% odds :(
174: German axe killed, Zaras gold mine destroyed (and his last swordsman)
175: Troops in place outside Lalibela.

We need happiness and I think we should settle the gems. I have a settler in Pasargadae who could reach a suitable location in 2-3 turns.

Currently I have troops in place outside Lalibela which only has a single archer (but 40% cultural defence, so we are sure to lose an Immortal or two). I think Lalibela should be razed, but we should later try to capture and keep Aksum for the gold mine.

Our economy and research rates are bad. I think we need to employ scientists in two cities, and how about building the pyramids somewhere? We are almost sure lose the race, but we could use the money.

Good progress. I think raze Lalibela. Aksum may be worth keeping for gold but probably best to raze and re-settle later.

I think settle gems if we can.

Pyramids is probably worth it, so is a scientist or two as long as we keep working those cottages.

Roster

Ozbenno - recently patched and raring to go.
Conroe - skipped
civman123 - missing
yena - Just played
berserks01 - UP
Grey Fox - On Deck

I'll give civman123 another 48 hours to check back in.

I wanted to wait til the last possible minute before re-installing, so lucky me :goodjob:

I've got it then. Probably play tonite or tomorrow.

I don't think we should raze Aksum. It already has culture and will pop its borders to include the gold in a couple of turns. Plenty of workers are nearby, so soon we will have both a new happiness resource, and enough money to pay for the city.

I think that the gem city should be located somewhere west of the gem tile. It will then block German and Arabian attacks (so send lots of defenders that way), and it will protect the gems from being pillaged.

But after these two cities I don't think we can afford any more until we somehow get Currency & CoL.

WE got ourselves a holy city, IIRC. So, let's spread the religion a bit to coax some happiness out of it.

I have already voice my opinion on pyramids, it is definitely a win-win gambit: if we get it, rep or HR would solve our happiness issue; if we lose it, we have money to temporarily relief our economic issue.

Welcome, Jamesds.

Switched Aachen to Pyramids. It has the most hammers and plenty of forests for chopping.

Met Hatty coming from the West.

Lalibela falls loosing only an Immortal.

Found Ecbatana

It will contain 4 grass hills, corn, grass cows, and gems once it expands.

Constructions came in, I went for Meditation next for some missionaries to help with happiness.

We're gonna need a few more axes/immortals before we can take Aksum. Currently guarded by 3 archers, 1 spear, 1 axe, and 1 worker :p

Pyramids in 62, faster if you start chopping with the 2 workers there. On a small minor insignificant side note, we're about to red-line on our income.

Economic meltdown, excellent. There's one cottage in the last screenshot still to be pillaged! We could withdraw some troops from around Aksum until we have catapults up there, delete some old warriors if we don't need them. We need to get the gems hooked up pronto to get some cash in.

Roster

Ozbenno - On Deck
Conroe - skipped
civman123 - missing

berserks01 - Just played
Grey Fox - UP to take charge of the economy
